* The word "defectors" have a negative connotation - maybe there may be a better neutral word that could be used.Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim insisted he has in excess of 31 government defectors and call on Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi not to implement emergency rule during the takeover.
At a packed press conference at 2pm today, he urged the ruling Barisan Nasional to commit to a peaceful handover of the government and not resort to emergency rule.
“We want a peaceful transition. We hope that Barisan will not put up emergency rule to stop MPs from going to Parliament or arrest (government) MPs or stop them from joining Pakatan Rakyat,” he said.
He has sought a meeting with Abdullah to show him the list of names of defectors and to discuss a smooth handover.
Anwar will need at least 31 defectors from BN and perhaps over 40 to form a stable Pakatan Rakyat government. - Malaysiakini, 16/9/2008 - Anwar: We've more than 31 defectors
Are those that withdraw their support from the current PM and the BN government, and shift it to the Pakatan Rakyat essentially for the good of the people in their constituencies and Malaysia generally doing something Bad? I do not think so - it is good and morally right unless they who move are doing so for some other ulterior motive -- i.e. for money, gifts, positions, etc..
The Star also carried a similar report:-
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has claimed that more than 31 Barisan MPs have agreed to cross over to Pakatan Rakyat.
He, however, refused to reveal the names of the 31 MPs.
Anwar told a press conference at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday that he would give the list of the names to the Prime Minister, when he meets him.
The Permatang Pauh MP also claimed that the transition to the new Government has been delayed a few days pending the meeting with Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition.
He said it was up to Abdullah to agree to the meeting and its date.
Anwar said that in a letter submitted to Abdullah on Monday, Pakatan had made four demands to ensure a smooth transition:
1) That Barisan does not hinder or prevent the MPs from acting in accordance with their conscience, constitutional rights and independentjudgement;
2) That the Barisan government should not invoke the Internal Security Act to detain the MPs or any other current Pakatan MPs;
3) That the Barisan government does not invoke emergency laws or police powers or suspend the Constitution or dissolve Parliament; and
4) That the Barisan government shall not impose roadblocks or impede MPs from going to Parliament or any institution of government. - Star, 16/9/2008 - Anwar claims more than 31 MPs will cross over to Pakatan (updated)
But, alas it was always reported that it was Anwar who said this.
Has anyone seen any other report where it mentions that PAS and DAP are also saying the same things...
It would be good if the other 2 partners, i.e. PAS and DAP, in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition could also confirm that what Anwar is saying is true...
I must state that it will also be good that those who are going to move over come out now and publicly declare it to be the case... then 'No Turning Back...No Turning Back" - unless months down the road, Pakatan Rakyat is also not performing as promised...mmm
Dear Charles,
ReplyDeleteHadi had made a statement asking Anwar not to be 'Mat Jenin'. Kit Siang is taking a wait and see approach. We, the silent majority are just fed-up with all the 'teka-teki' by Anwar Ibrahim. If you have the majority now, just gives the name and show it to all Malaysian. Why he has to ask the PM first and expect PM to give him the government like a hand shake. Anwar is going to Tg. Rambutan after this, I supposed.
pakcik serendah, are you an umno fella? If you are, please refrain from commenting!! Whether DSAI has the numbers is none of your concern! As far as we are concerned, we want CHANGE!!! PERIOD!!! NO MORE UMNO BABOONS!!! DSAI IS BETTER CHOICE THAN ANYONE OF THE UMNO BABOONS!!!! If you ask me, I think DSAI SHOULD NOT divulge any names yet and moreover Tian Chua confirmed it already the other day, remember? It is as good as YB LKS or Hadi confirming it! We the rakyat can wait if DSAI says so. It's not that we are following blindly. The key point is WE WANT CHANGE FROM UMNO TO PAKATAN!! PERIOD!!! If I were Najis, I would be shivering by now instead of showing his utmost and disgusted arrogance!! See, this is what I mean by UMNO BABOONS!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is definetly not a good start. After promosing us, the rakyat, including the Permatang Pauh voters the sky and the moon, now we are told that Pak lah has to be consulted etc etc......hey something is smelling like bullshit here.
ReplyDelete16hb kita memerintah 17hb kita turunkan harga minyak..........dont that sound familiar....

pakcik oh pakcik,
ReplyDeleteWho's going to tg. rambutan...??? after 916? Anwar? guess not! PM & his punch of idiot MPs government in waiting to lost power...
U just another fool? do u think it is wise to release the defectors list now...and hope there will be peace transition of power??? what choice does Pak lah has left??? ISA all defectors plus PR MPs??? hahaha... cannot do that anymore!
Declare state of emergency??? Can he does that without first getting consent from Agong??? hahaha... stupid mistake if he do that... and faster for him and his BN go down...
Will there be riot??? Maybe and maybe not??? or perhaps only internal chaos in BN, which we already can see it very clearly now...Do i need to say more about it???
Well, there will only left 1 choice...to have talk with Anwar and transit the power to PR... the longer it delay, the more MPs going to jump.
hahaha////

Hi Pakcik serendah,
ReplyDeleteAnwar cannot reveal the names yet as he does not want these MPs to be bundled up under ISA by the PM.
He has a duty to protect the names until the very last minute after the necessary groundwork had been established to be able to safely announce the names - knowing that he had, to the best of his ability, paved a safe way for them to be revealed without unnecessarily putting them in harm's way - that's the least Anwar could do for the trust and support they had entrusted upon him.
There's a reason for Anwar's constant rhetorics - but let's not reveal the reason for it (for the time being, at least)!
hadi's goose has turned into a gender, so don;t expect too much from hadi who's eyes are blinded by the fools gold that umno has enticed him with.
ReplyDeletePakcik serendah,
ReplyDeleteI would agreed with Anwar to first approach the PM for a smooth transition. PM is asking Anwar to show hand and of course Anwar won't do. If he does, ISA will be used on all the MPs. The process of taking over the government is not a simple process and it will take couple of days or weeks. If Bodohwi knows the list, the MPs will be dead meat before the process of taking over is done. my 2 cents.
They is no need for that. They speak with one voice and through Anwar - current Opposition Leader.
ReplyDeleteQuite unlike UMNO/BN which look more and more like a headless chicken. This is what when happens when a weak leader surrounds himself with self serving half-baked commedians masquerading as politicians. Or should I call them half-baked comedians masquerading as politicians? Hey, it's not even funny.
To pakcik serendah,
ReplyDeleteIf i anounce those names would you guarantee your pakcik tidur wont use ISA to prevent fall? wont declare state of emergency? you already spent your time with UMNO 51years mayb you have not yet born. so why cant wait few days??? u think just lompat lompat ?? its about nation, need very very carefull cos BN will use dirty trick like your pakcik tidor... ur sound talking like UMNO pakcik tidor cant accept wat current happen... no wonder ur nick name pakcik serendah otak udang..
Pak Cik Serendah.....the name is Pakatan Rakyat secret, if you don't trust people in power how could you reveal the names. Anwar has said that it is not an ultimatum and as it stands it is conciliatory, the ultimatum will come when PR start to be confrontational.PM was offered the best democratic option in the interest of the nation while strategically Anwar is fully aware of what PM may resort to stay in power. So Pak Cik, it is a very simple game plan. Anwar doesn't need to go to Tg Rambutan but Putra Jaya-Insya'ALLAH. Say no to ISA.
ReplyDeletePas treasurer Hatta Ramli said that they did have the numbers

ReplyDeleteDear Charles,
ReplyDeleteWe are not living in a free country like the US or Uk or even India, where a change of govt is a matter of course.
Here, it is a fight for survival for the ruling coalition. They will not hand over power that easily; therefore, perhaps some cards still need to be held close to the chest.
Dear Mr Hector
ReplyDeleteI can forgive pakcik serendah for not understanding the government machinery but you being a lawyer surely must know that no one just walks into Putrajaya saying "I'm taking over" unless he wants to create anarchy.
Anwar and his team are taking great pains to follow every legal procedure to ensure a smooth transition to minimise birth pains of a new and corruption free Malaysia.
Knowing BN's track record of using ISA, FRU, people disappearing like Altantuya, road blocks, instigating race riots, he has to be very cautious about how to handle a tyrannical regime that has been backed against the wall.
I'm surprised that you people are all so naive to think that today is the day that he will simply go to Putrajaya, tell Badawi to get out and occupy his office. Get real. Especially you, Mr. Hector, having full knowledge of legal matters.
He said September 16 there would be a concrete move made to take over and that has happened.
Why do you need Kit Siang or Hadi or DAP etc. to confirm. Isn't Anwar Ibrahim the leader of the Opposition coalition? Does Najib or other cabinet ministers have to confirm PM's statements? Isn't it enough that Guan Eng, Tian Chua and several others have clearly alluded to a take over several times in the media? Not the MSM-lah. They would not print such support for Anwar for they are too busy licking their political masters shoes.
Even Kit Siang hinted at last night's ceramah that 916 will be a day for reckoning and all ISA detainees will be released after this. Isn't this support enough for you, Mr. Hector? Read the online news reports-lah. The trouble is you people read only the MSM and then ask silly questions like where is the confirmation from the rest of Pakatan Rakyat leaders.
Understand that his patience is due to his concern for the safety and well being of the Malaysian society.
Isn't of being grateful for the conscientous care and utmost respect the PR leaders are taking for our safety and economic stability you are instead slamming Anwar for not seizing power forcefully.
I suppose people like you guys need to live in countries like Zimbabwe first to learn how to appreciate leaders like Anwar Ibrahim.
creating a lot of confusion indeed. sekejap ada sekejap takde. hopefully everything cld be resolved real fast and put the nation back into order
ReplyDeleteDear Charles,
ReplyDeleteI believe the announcementby DSAI is on behalf on PR, which in turn, has the agreement from all leaders of the parties in the coalition, ie PAS DAP and PKR regarding this announcement. Otherwise, DSAI wouldn't have announce it.

ReplyDeleteWhy must we doubt DSAI's statement & the need to show the Flip-Flop the list, he doesn't matter anymore as he is not the type who is humble at victory nor will he be gracious in defeat as a Gentleman???
Welcome the change, change & change for The New Dawn of Malaysia-Merdeka really means Merdeka & Merdeka for all the Rakyats of United Malaysia
After 51 years MALAYSIA IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE but backwards under UMNO because of the Oppression from the UMNO goons’ divide and rule fear tactics the Rakyats have matured & you must see all this coming because All The Rakyats of Malaysia are all fed-up & can no longer with-stand the hypocrisies, bullshits, lies and deceits of these UMNO Clowns now in Power ok???
We urge all BN Components MPs with a conscience to do the necessary to make possible a New Malaysia for all Rakyats of Malaysia so that all our children and their children & their children’s children’s future will be safe and secured in the Country we all love and not be intimidated by those UMNO Clowns now in power with their oppressive & fear tactics and in the verge of making Malaysia a Police State if left unchecked otherwise. Save RPK as he is the midst of a conspiracy of the real murderers of Altantuya to silence him for good, instead of being C4ed he could be poisoned and worse off if he is on hunger strike by himself. The Acting IGP is defending the Police position after being made the tools of UMNO’s fear tactics & so he is now making lame excuses for being the Stringed Puppet to be easily manipulated by the Puppeteer, power that be. Make the Police especially the Acting IGP personally held responsible for RPK's safety otherwise Acting IGP will have to eat his own medicine.
Moronic PeeM and Botak Home Minister last minutes’ attempts to cling on power by using the fear tactics of using the ISA at their whims and fancies selectively against dissent & tried to deny their own actions as they now have no balls to face the wrath of the all the Rakyats of Malaysia. ONE DAY THE MORONIC BOTAK AND FLIP FLOP AND C4 MUST BE MADE TO TASTE THEIR OWN MEDICINE OK?
All Rakyats of Malaysia will see to that these Clowns will be thrown out soon come the New Dawn of Malaysia & that all Rakyats of Malaysia will welcome the New Malaysia on Malaysia Day 916, 2008 for a Malaysia for All Malaysians.
Justice MUST BE DONE for Altantuya and for all those detained under ISA without the trial nor the rights of appeal. Light-up a Candle in the Lantern of the Mid-Autumn Festival for them all to usher in the NEW DAWN OF MALAYSIA COME 916, 2008

We are indeed witnessing an attempt by certain hardcore Umno operatives to create unrest amongst the various races. Remember, it is to create the perfect pretence for the UMNO led government to impose emergency law and thus roll back their losses in the last elections!
The ISA arrests are only part of the plan. There will be further provocations! They are desperately hoping that enough unrest and conflict will arise so that they may use even more hardliner’s tactics with the security forces.
I sincerely hope our fellow citizens will remain calm. Fight, I say…but fight smart. Use the net, use it to spread the word that violence and conflict is to be avoided.
The UMNO hardliners (Dr M, Toyo) have run out of ideas. In their desperation, they have become more ruthless. We just need to stay the course….and these jokers will self destruct
Dear fellow Malaysians,
ReplyDeleteDon't you felt ashamed to the rest of the world. Six months after the election, we are still taking about politics as if it will never ends.
I am not an UMNO fan for sure, just an ordinary working Joe on the street. Like many of my colleagues that supported Anwar's cause, we had one thing to tell him, if you have the numbers, its better to reveal it now and change the government. These 'katak' would definitely have to face the consequences whether now or later. Not very much from the BN/government but from voters of their own constituencies.
Many of us seriously doubt Anwar has the numbers. All of us knew, he had to make a press conference in order mend his lost credibility. Lets forgive and forget whats happening and carry on with our lives...in harmony of cause.
Pakcik Serendah,
ReplyDeleteI wonder how rendah your IQ must be! Clearly, the refusal to reveal the names is a strategic move. And the request to see the embattled PM is just a gesture of civility as well as a calculated gambit.
What we are witnessing is a cataclysmic event in our nation's history. I certainly do not mind waiting a few more days or weeks; we have waited for decades for something like this to take place.
I urge my fellow peace-loving Malaysians to be patient. Change is definitely coming our way!
It is better for Anwar alone and only he alone to issue out any statements regarding the 916.
ReplyDeleteMany of us notices that the PR do not simply opens their mouth and do a bla bla bla and bla.
This is why PR is now so critical of the bandar Kulim MP.
On the 916 , for any battle to be successful make sure theres only one general.
Lim Kit Siang will says the same thing .he will say " you wait and you will see ".
This 916 is not just a plan but a blueprint for the future of Malaysia and the survival of PR in years to come. Anwar kept the list close to himself and a trusted few of his men. PKR did learned some lessons since ezam and that saifool.
916 did happen but it was in Ukraine! We have to postpone ours.
But it will happen.
This have nothing to do with any riddle this time.
And if bodohwi calls for a re election now , we already knew who will be going out.
It is now up to bodohwi ,to surrender or to fight.
Therefore a meeting between both of them is important.
But Bodohwi refuses to meet Anwar.
Now this shows that bodohwi dont cares at all. He dont cares the rakyat , he dont cares the country , he dont cares nothing at all.
Bodohwi dont even cares to read Zaid's resignation letter !
For all he cares are only 2 things.
To make sure his family "nasi periuk tak pecah" and to pulls down the panties off Jea.....!
This is why nobody can calls Anwar and his 916 as a bluff.
Not until these 2 generals from both sides meet.
Involving the Agong won't be so nice but it is the last resort.
Cerebrity,You have to be so arrogance to pakcik serendah ha... It is people like you who thinks they knew everything that will spoilt our country. Believe me, most malay would not accept the new government and if you are at the rurals and kampong, whether you like it or not, every Malay folks are cursing Anwar for being a liar. Permatang Pauh voters were cheated and they now knew who Anwar really is...cakap saja pandai tapi habuk pun tak ada. MP Ibrahim Ali did made a statement yesterday that the reason why Anwar so anxious to be PM has something to do with the sodomy trial and it's actually a personal cause rather than for Malaysian. What's wrong being an opposition leader. If he cares for the nation, he would stick to the job and improves our systems. Its obvious that even DAP and PAS would not accept the 'kataks'. You are so clever, can't you read behind the lines of these two leaders.
