Zaid Ibrahim changes postion and now calls for repeal of ISA - Selamat Hari Raya

It was a good Hari Raya 2008 when I saw the Open Letter from Zaid Ibrahim to the Prime Minister calling very clearly for the repeal of the ISA.

Sir, you are still the prime minister and you still have the opportunity to leave your footprint in Malaysian history. I urge you to do so by repealing the ISA once and for all. - Malaysiakini, 30/9/2008, Zaid Ibrahim writes open letter to PM
Before this, Zaid's position was that he was not calling for the repeal of the ISA...only that it be not used against 'civilians'...

De facto Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (pic) stuck his neck out against the Government by condemning the use of the Internal Security Act (ISA) against civilians.

He urged the Government to revert to the original purpose of the law, which was to curb communism.

“It is time for the Government to go back to the original spirit of the ISA and it should only be used on armed terrorists or those out to topple the Government by force.

“I am not calling for a repeal of the ISA but for it to be used only when there is a real threat to national security and not on civilians,” he told a press conference at his home in Pasir Hor here yesterday. - Star, 15/9/2008,Zaid Ibrahim: Resignation rejected (final update)

But today, Zaid Ibrahim has seen the light and is now calling for the REPEAL of the ISA.

ISA and other Detention Without Trial laws must all be repealed - there is NO justification for its retention in Malaysia. They cannot be reviewed...or amended - it must be repealed. There is no 2 ways about this.

REPEAL ISA AND ALL OTHER DETENTION WITHOUT TRIAL LAWS

RELEASE IMMEDIATELY AND UNCONDITIONALLY ALL THOSE WHO ARE CURRENTLY BEING DETAINED UNDER THE ISA AND THE OTHER DETENTION WITHOUT TRIAL LAWS.

Selamat Hari Raya to all who are being detained under these Detention Without Trial Laws, and their families and friends.

My hope and prayer is that this will be the last Raya that you spend in detention...

  3. We cant expect those power crazy UMNO ministers to also voice out to repeal the ISA. What about leaders from MCA, MIC, Gerakan, and other parties of the coalition. Do they consciously believe that ISA is good for the country or they do not want to risk loosing their comfortable money-making position,or worried that UMNO will tell them to shut-up?

  4. "When in Rome, do what the Romans do"
Now he out of 'Rome'! No longer a team player, free to express his personal thought...so the benefit of the doubt, should fall in his favor. It is better late than never...I think his action to resign from the govt and spoke out, has done us all Malaysians a kind favor and deserve praise.

  5. ISA will not be abolished by UMNO/BN becos' they can't face the truth and can't handle RPK and the rest. UMNO/BN will only reform and change when they become the opposition in Parliment. Only then the dream of our founding fahter will become reality. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

  6. The ISA is the most anti-Islam piece of shit introduced by the British.

Now we have non-Muslims begging this so called Muslim government to abolish ISA. What are the muftis, iman and those holyshit Malays doing? Are they not aware that ISA is anti-Islam and against the teaching of the Holy Quran.

Why are they not telling their UMNO masters that they are practising a "haramic" ISA? They want to keep their jobs. They are the worst hypocrites supporting the hypocrities.

  7. The gomen are really pissed with people like Anwar and Zaid, they are the Towering Malays who have the guts to stand on their own two feet. With people like them ISA, NEP will be thrown out of the window. They are the ones that shows the malay community that they do not need any crutches. They have the brains to thinks and therefore they do not follow blindly.
Statements like Hindraf is a threat to National security, is it a lie?
RPK is a threat to Islam is it a lie?
And more recently, Maybank's aquisition of BII indonesia is a good buy. Yes its a goodBye for RM8billion.
How many more stupid blunders are we going to make to screw up the country? Why on earth do we like to act stupid and play stupid?
Just ask yourself if you can get the shares for Rp310 why are you paying Rp433. And those confirm idiots paid Rp433 a share for a confirm immediate loss of about RM2 billion. They tried really hard to be idiots.....

  8. Today our minister is enjoying his hari raya at his best luxury. I wonder whether he has any conscience towards the suffering of the people he has placed under ISA detention. If the spirit of this holy season is to forgive and forget, it definitely is not showing by the minister and the ruling party in the government, eventhough they are muslims! Can he and the ruling party ask themselves whether they really believe that these people are capable of threatening the security of the country and overthrow the government? If they think that these people can instigate unrest, how about letting the citizen of this country to have a say about such presumption? The minister and the ruling party always like to claim to have the majority support in their action but the truth is they may not even have the majority suppot of their own members within the party to act in such an uncaring and unforgiving manner. If the minister and the ruling party do have some decent human character, the least thing they can do is to free those under ISA detention without trial and allow them to face the proper court of law in this country. Is it that difficult to do the honourable thing as a human being towards another?

  10. These people or politicians whom I don't consider as leaders of this nation are really sh^^^t heads. So angry when hearing BN component parties talk sh^^^t or complain to their master, but at the end nothing change or implement. Rakyat want action, not keep talking sh^^^t for self-survival. This is like lying yourself to your own grave. Stop tracking your feet. Malaysia will be much better without you sh^^^t politicians. Get out of BN if nothing concrete change or stay independent or join PR. So sorry to have voted BN in PRU11 and sadly in PRU12. All out for PR in PRU13. No more excuse.

  11. ISA is a means to silence anyone who is smarter than the government. ISA is to shut anyone who demands their rights as equal sons of this soil.

No point in words. What we need is for the malays/chinese/indians/asli and others to take to the streets and demand for change.
