Najib wants....Najib steps in...Najib calls...Will MCA factions obey or will they tell him to mind his own business?

How embarassing for the Chinese in the MCA that finally the UMNO president (not an MCA member) have to step in to solve the MCA problems. Where is the pride?. Najib wants....Najib steps in...Najib calls...mmm - looks like the 'MCA big-boss' has spoken

If intervention was needed, could they not have sought the help of some MCA old-timer?

The entry of Najib into this affair will certainly reinforce the dominance of UMNO with the BN. MCA, being the 2nd main party, original founder member of this political coalition - this makes it even worse..

One of the main reason why many rejected the MCA was because they saw that MCA was no longer a 'partner' within the BN but merely a 'follower'...a 'yes-party' of UMNO. In fact MCA seem to have lost all identity and did not stand for anything anymore..

Now, with the open public intervention of the President of UMNO to resolve its problems, I believe that MCA will just sink even further...

They should really turn around and tell Najib to 'stay out' of this, and leave it to MCA to resolve its issues...but can they? After all, is not Najib the 'big brother'...the 'boss'..

MCA is in a mess - the majority of the members have no more confidence in the President ...but he has elected to stay on by reason that it was not big enough a majority for him to abdicate his position in 'law'...

But what ever the problems within the MCA and/or the BN, Pakatan Rakyat and other opposition parties must not just focus and gloat at the predicaments their political opponents are facing.

They too must start to look at their own parties - and try to make in more democratic, more participatory, more ....

The latest twist in the MCA feud could have been the last straw as far as Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is concerned.

Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional chairperson, said he would meet with the leaders of all the warring factions.

He noted that the crisis had worsened and became more serious.

azlanThe failure of MCA to resolve its internal problems has resulted in the Chinese community and other races losing confidence in BN's second largest component party, he said.

"I would find time to talk to them and would see if there is a common ground, we would take it from there," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Najib said he plans to meet the leaders before the Nov 28 extraordinary general meeting (EGM) called by the faction aligned to Liow Tiong Lai.

Yesterday, embattled party president Ong Tee Keat removed nine members of the presidential council, the majority of whom were aligned to Liow.

This includes Youth chief Wee Ka Siong and Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun.

Up until today, Najib had said that he would only interfere in the crisis if invited due to the policy of non interference in the ruling coalition.

However, it appears that the MCA president's latest strike had altered the rules of the game.
Crisis would affect BN

Meanwhile, Najib said there were many groups expressing disappointment over the turn of events in MCA.

"Certainly if we want to find a formula for unity, our action should reflect that desire.
NONE"It seems that what is happening in the MCA so far, no longer inspires confidence among those outside the party, including among BN component members," he said.

The prime minister also said the crisis in MCA would affect BN, especially the effort to restore the coalition's image in the eyes of the people.

"Yes, it is going to hamper our effort to revive the position of BN in the eyes of the people.

"The people now see Umno as being very stable and has gone through the process of reforming itself and presenting a new image to the rakyat," he said.

"We hope that other parties will come together and reflect the desire to put together a new image for the BN," he added. - Malaysiakini, 19/11/2009, MCA crisis: Najib to intervene

The Prime Minister has stepped in to resolve the MCA crisis and has called for a meeting with all sides.

He hopes to have a meeting with opposing factions before a planned extraordinary general meeting on Nov 28, which has been rejected by the MCA central committee in a meeting on Wednesday.

Najib’s decision to mediate comes as concerns rise over a prolonged split in the party.
In other developments:

>       MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat says the party stands to be guided by well-intentioned groups who are sincere in resolving the crisis;

>       VICE-PRESIDENT Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai insists on pushing ahead with the EGM despite welcoming Najib’s decision;

>       CENTRAL committee member Datuk Ti Lian Ker says the rationale behind Wednesday’s appointment of presidential council members is to choose people who are willing to work and cooperate; and
>       DEPUTY president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has been appointed the party’s new Johor chief - Star, 20/11/2009, Najib wants meeting with rival MCA factions

The result of Najib's intervention will be an increased dominance of UMNO over MCA in the BN.

Why is he meeting different factions of MCA? He, as UMNO President and Chairman of BN, should only be dealing with the leadership of the MCA... He should not be interfering in any other affairs of the party or meeting with other members of the party - or can he?

Better to get some former PM even if MCA wants to go beyond its party to seek an intervenor/mediator..

Will the warring factions of MCA go to this meeting called by Najib? If they do, then MCA will have no more pride and dignity...

The warring factions should just turn around and tell Najib to mind his own business, and not get involved in what is really an internal party matter...
