Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers must be allowed to carry out their investigations uninterrupted and any transfers of officers involved in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) probe must be reversed, a member of the anti-graft body's Operations Review Panel said.

Lim Chee Wee said the police's actions against MACC from arrests to raids to transfers are being perceived by every right thinking Malaysian as a naked abuse of power.

"It gives rise to a strong inference that someone wants to shut up and shut down MACC in its investigations of a donation of an unprecedented sum and of monies related to 1MDB," Lim told The Malaysian Insider.
He said this in response to the sudden transfer of MACC director (special operations) Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin and MACC director of strategic communications Datuk Rohaizad Yaakob who were moved to the Prime Minister's Department, effective Monday. Their transfers were announced yesterday and it is not known what roles the two will be taking at their new posting.

Bahri had been very vocal against the police over their actions in their probe into who allegedly leaked classified government documents on the 1MDB investigation.

It is understood that he and Rohaizad were both transferred for their “hard hitting” statements following the police raids and arrests of MACC officers.

Rohaizad had been present to receive a visit by opposition politicians to the MACC headquarters on Thursday, and that Special Branch officers had been there to "profile" the key MACC officers who had met the group.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, who is abroad on official duty, has asked Putrajaya to reinstate the two as they were only acting on his orders.

"Return my officers immediately. Take me as a replacement. They did and acted based on my instructions," Shukri said in a text message to The Malaysian Insider yesterday. – August 8, 2015.
