20 Days after MB Azmin said 'disclose SALARY of top management in GLCs' - looks like 'janji tidak ditepati'?

MORE THAN 20 DAYS have passed since the media report said that 'Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has instructed the state finance officer and state secretary to quickly respond to DAP assemblyperson Lau Weng San’s request for a list of top management in state government-linked companies (GLC) and their salaries.

Now, 20 days later we have a media report that says,  '...Lau had then said he was thankful for Azmin's concern, and congratulated him for his transparency and openness...'

So Lau, what happened - did you get the list? Transparency demands that this list especially the salaries and allowances be disclosed to the public...

It is NOT 'transparency and openness' if Azmin shares with you...and then both of you keep it a secret...the people deserve to know - after all it is the people's monies not the MB's money.

Or, Azmin is just taking TOO LONG.... hoping that we will all forget... these are information that should have been so easily available - all it would have taken, I believe, was a couple of days...not 20 over days...

It is really shocking to see how much CEOs and upper management are being paid, and Director allowances are....We are not bothered about this in PRIVATE Companies for that is up to their shareholders...

But if it is a Government Owned Private Company - or where the majority(or significant) shareholder is really 'government' that we are concerned about  - well, we the 'people' are really the owners, the shareholders, and we certainly deserve to know....

As a matter of principle, CEOs, Management, Directors, ...should not be paid LARGE salaries - certainly their salaries should not be higher than the Chief Minister(Menteri Besar) ...in fact as a matter of principle, maybe their salary should not be more than 10 X Minimum Wages? Excessive salaries and allowances 'reduces' profits which really belong to the people... It may be OK to pay workers better wages... rather than using the said monies to just one or two. Someone says that some CEOs of GLC earns half a million ringgit a month? Is this true?

Further -
CEOs, Directors and Upper Management of State owned companies and state linked salaries should no longer be paid exorbitant sums as salary, allowances, bonuses,etc.. As a guiding principle, no such persons should be paid salaries exceeding the salary of the Menteri Besar or no higher than RM20,000 per month. Director's allowances should not exceed RM10,000 but if the appointed Director is the Menteri Besar, Exco Member, ADUN or government employee, then there must be NO Director's allowances(and if there is, it should be paid back into the State coffers) - such persons shall only be entitled to travel reimbursements or other reimbursements - they already are being remunerated as 'wakil rakyat' and state employees and all they do as Directors is part of that job already. - Selangor, Azmin, Constitution Amendment, PKNS Scandal?, RM3 Billion,Open Letter by MI, Things to do ...?

S’gor speaker: Top brass of GLCs can’t hide pay

Government-linked companies (GLCs) cannot hide behind the Official Secrets Act (OSA) and the exemptions under Selangor's Freedom of Information Enactment, said Selangor state assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh.

The excuse given that the information about the salaries and bonuses of GLCs top management is exempted under Selangor's Freedom of Information Enactment is simply not true, Yeoh said.

"GLCs receive state grants, they should not be able to rely on Freedom of Information Enactment exemptions because they are dealing with taxpayers’ money," Yeoh explained in a forum discussing the OSA in Kuala Lumpur today.

Yeoh said she had been told the information regarding the GLCs had not been released because it was against corporate governance code and that it was exempted from the Freedom of Information Enactment.

"I think the reason they keep giving excuses is because GLC directors are paid a lot of money. Because if the salary was like RM2,000, nobody would make all the effort to come up with these excuses," she opined.

'Protected information'
She was referring to Kampung Tunku assemblyperson Lau Weng San's request for a list of top management in state GLCs and their salaries.

Lau (photo) said at that time he had waited over a month for an answer, but he was merely told that the information he requested was protected under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

This had prompted Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang to question if Selangor's Freedom of Information Enactment had been shelved under Azmin Ali's administration as Selangor Menteri Besar.

Following this, Azmin had instructed the state finance officer and state secretary to quickly respond to Lau's request.

Lau had then said he was thankful for Azmin's concern, and congratulated him for his transparency and openness. - Malaysiakini, 10/6/2015,

MB Azmin tells state sec to reveal GLC salaries
Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has instructed the state finance officer and state secretary to quickly respond to DAP assemblyperson Lau Weng San’s request for a list of top management in state government-linked companies (GLC) and their salaries.

Lau (left in photo) on Monday told reporters his query during the state assembly and through a letter to the MB had not borne results as he was told the information is protected under the Data Protection Act 2012.

Following this, he said he received a call from Azmin and his political secretary Shuhaimi Shafie on Monday and Tuesday respectively addressing his query.

“I congratulate and thank the MB for his concern over the issue raised. Transparency and openness is the hallmark of a Pakatan Rakyat government,” he said.

Lau had requested for a list of those holding GLC top management and board of director posts, their salaries, bonuses and allowances.

He said replies to questions by state assemblypersons during the administration of former MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim were more “complete”.

Lau’s statement on Monday prompted Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang to question if Selangor’s Freedom of Information Enactment has been shelved with Azmin as MB. - Malaysiakini, 21/5/2015
