Earlier today Mohd Azis Jamman said police had arrested Azman Noor Adam, the brother of Umno supreme council member Lokman, because the Sedition Act had yet to be repealed.

The Pakatan Harapan Government will revoke the following laws:
Sedition Act 1948
Prevention of Crime Act 1959
•Universities and University Colleges Act 1971
•Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984
•National Security Council Act 2016
•Mandatory death by hanging in all Acts

The Pakatan Harapan Government will also abolish draconian provisions in the following Acts:
Penal Code 1997 especially on peaceful assembly and activities harmful to democracy
•Communications and Multimedia Act 1998
Security Offences(special measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA)
Peaceful Assembly Act 2012

Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) 2015

To ensure an effective check and balance, the Pakatan Harapan Government will revoke all clauses that prevent the Court from reviewing decisions of the Government or the laws introduced by the Government. - Extracted from Pakatan Harapan Election Manifesto

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 ― Umno’s Datuk Lokman Noor Adam accused Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of hypocrisy today after the former’s brother was detained for sedition. He claimed Anwar was reneging on Pakatan Harapan’s previous pledge to do away with the Sedition Act 1948.Police arrested and remanded Lokman’s brother, Azman Noor Adam, for allegedly insulting Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.- Malay Mail, 2/10/2018

“The Sedition Act is arbitrary and subject to abuse. It has been used as a political tool to stifle political dissent here in Malaysia.“We have consistently called for its repeal and that position remains,” he added. This follows conflicting calls by fellow DAP lawmaker and also brother to Gobind, Ramkarpal Singh, to invoke the colonial era law to investigate former inspector-general of police Tun Hanif Omar over his recent allegations against Lim Kit Siang. The party and Ramkarpal were then chided by Hakam, who called his push for the use of the act as ironic and against what was promised by PH in its manifesto.Gobind also weighed in on Hanif’s allegations, clearly distancing himself from the idea of invoking the controversial act.“Whilst I agree that action should be taken against Tun Hanif Omar for the somewhat reckless and baseless allegations he made against Lim Kit Siang, resort should not be made to the Sedition Act for that purpose,” he said in the statement.-Malay Mail, 10/9/2018

Read Harapan manifesto, Surendran blasts deputy minister over Sedition Act

Incumbent PKR vice-president N Surendran has criticised Deputy Home Minister Azis Jamman's explanation that police were merely following procedure in carrying out arrests under the Sedition Act.

"If this fellow says this kind of thing, he's not fit to be a deputy minister! What nonsense to talk about police standard operating procedure.

"He should get a copy of the Pakatan Harapan manifesto and read it," Surendran said on Twitter.

Earlier today Mohd Azis Jamman said police had arrested Azman Noor Adam, the brother of Umno supreme council member Lokman, because the Sedition Act had yet to be repealed.

As such, Azis said he was told by inspector-general of police Fuzi Harun that the police were only following procedure.

Repealing the Sedition Act is one of the promises Harapan made in its manifesto.
