15+9 dead. Wrong to lay blame on driver-employees, and not employers or government 'failings' that may have caused death of 15 University students, and 9 police in earlier vehicle collission cases?

“I want to apologise to all the families of the victims and the students involved in the accident. What happened was because the bus brakes suddenly stopped working.”

Mohd Amirul Fadhil Zulkifle, who’s been driving buses since 2016, said the bus was fine until it reached the elephant crossing bridge in Gerik, when the brakes suddenly gave out.

“I tried everything I could, but the air pressure was gone, so nothing worked, not even the handbrake or the gear shift. People saw me overtaking and thought I was speeding, but I was actually trying to avoid hitting other vehicles. The crash happened on a bend, and there was just nothing more I could do.” - World of Buzz

Another bus accident, where 15 University Students die - who is responsible? Is it Anthony Loke, and the Minister of Transport who has the DUTY to ensure busses, lorries, etc are all in in good condition - there is law enforcement, but what happened - how come this bus was still allowed to operate. Was there 'CORRUPTION" - was the bus deemed roadworthy without needed inspection - because 'corruption' was involved?  Will the police and the anti-corruption (MACC) be investigating this? Who inspected the bus, and said it was road-worthy? OR will we see again the WORKER(Driver) being blamed, just like the earlier accident where the lorry crashed into a police FRU vehicle that ended up with 9 deaths.

Again, the driver is being 'prejudiced' by the revelation of various allegations that he committed many traffic offences in the past. If he had really committed so many offences in the past, why did the GOVERNMENT not act to disqualify the bus company from using such drivers with a history of traffic offences? Again BLAME lies with the Ministry of Transport.

THE bus driver involved in the fatal crash that killed 15 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) on the East–West Highway (Jalan Raya Timur-Barat, JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik, had previously received 18 traffic summonses, police have confirmed...“The bus involved in the incident also has a record of 21 traffic summonses,” he told *Harian Metro*. “Of those, 16 have already been resolved in court, while five are still under investigation.”...“We aim to complete the investigation papers as soon as possible to bring the driver to court,” he said. “We will be looking into every aspect – the driver's offence records, background, past employment, and any related activity.” - Vibes, 10/6/2025

WOW - is the police suffering from tunnel vision - when it seems that they are focused on blaming the driver only - to charge him to court? Investigate thoroughly - and charge all responsible even public officers and Ministers that allowed such vehicles to operate on roads, and maybe without even seat belts...If there were seat belts, the number of fatalities may have been much less.

The police and authorities must INVESTIGATE thoroughly and determine the cause of the accident. You cannot blame the driver(worker) if the bus was poorly maintained, and the bus failed to function well - and the driver is not responsible for the crime. Then the blame will fall on the Employer/Owner of the bus who failed to maintain the bus as required by law - has the owner/employer yet to be named in the media? If the bus was not road-worthy, then at fault is also the Ministry of Transport, who is duty bound to ensure all busses/lorries are safe to be on the road - did they approve when it was not road worthy? Did they even check the bus - or was the approval given without inspections? Was there corruption involved? Was there an 'abuse of power"? Is the owner a friend of some Minister or politician?

MEDIA is duty bound to reveal the TRUTH - the whole truth? When was the bus last inspected and given the 'green light' to be on the road? Why was the bus(not driver) with 21 traffic summons still allowed to operate - more so, if the summons was related to 'road-worthiness'?

The nation has once again been shocked by a road tragedy stemming from poor maintenance of a heavy vehicle and a lorry driver with a prior record, with yesterday’s accident claiming the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel...The incident, which occurred at 8.50 am along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, was reportedly caused by a steering system failure in a lorry loaded with stones, which crashed into a truck carrying 18 FRU personnel who were returning to Ipoh after completing duties under Op Chariot in Teluk Intan. - The Sun, 14/5/2025

Back to the FRU Truck accident - was the FRU Truck road worthy, and were there safety devices to protect the safety of the occupants of the FRU truck? Was there seat belts - and were the police officers wearing seat belts?

Here, the Malaysian Government was the employer - and were they negligent in ensuring occupants are safe when an accident happens - or are still police vehicles lacking passenger safety (like seat belts) .... Should the Saifuddin Nasution the Minister responsible for police be charged with an offence - maybe an occupational safety and health offence? Road safety is under the Ministry of Transport - was it in the wrong for not ensuring police vehicles were safe for its occupants especially when use in peace times...travelling on public roads?

Were the 9 police officers who died even wearing at least seat belts? Or was there no seat belts - or similar safety features? Then, blame should lie on PM Anwar Ibrahim, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution (responsible for police), and Minister Anthony Loke (minister responsible for road safety and transport)?  The employer of the police is the GOVERNMENT - should not the employer be responsible for the safety and health of their employees - so, another posible Occupational Safety and Heath CRIME committed by the IGP, Saifuddin and Anwar Ibrahim(representing the government).

In the recent bus accident, if the bus was defective, then the Employer/Owner is responsible for the deaths/injury caused - not the driver(employee) - in fact, the driver is also a VICTIM - and action must be taken against the employer/owner of the bus? Employers are OBLIGATED to provide their workers safe working conditions...

In the FRU case, it is SHOCKING that only the driver has been charged in court -

The driver of a stone-laden lorry pleaded not guilty at the Magistrates’ Court here on Friday on nine counts of causing the death of nine members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), in an accident on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam on Tuesday (May 13). Rudi Zulkarnain Mat Radi, 45, made the plea after the charges were read separately before judge Norhamizah Shaiffuddin. The man as the lorry driver, was charged with dangerous driving in public at 9.05am on May 13 at KM15 Jalan Sungai Manik, and causing the death of nine FRU members — Sergeant S Perumal, 44; Sergeant Mohd Roslan Abd Rahim, 46; Corporal Mohd Pozli Jaudin, 41; Corporal Nurit Ak Pandak, 34; Corporal Amiruddin Zabri, 38; Corporal Mohamad Hilmi Mohd Azlan, 38; Corporal Muhamad Akmal Muhamad, 35; Lance Corporal Damarrulan Abdul Latif, 33; and Constable Akmal Wafi Annuar, 28.The driver has been accused with committing an offence under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and could be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of RM20,000.The accused can also be disqualified from holding and obtaining a driver’s licence for not less than five years from the date of conviction.

Why charge only the DRIVER - not the employer/owner of the lorry, including Directors, Managers, etc? Was the lorry in perfect road worthy condition? Did the relevant government authority inspect and confirm the condition of the lorry..

YUP, it is easy to lay blame on the small man, the lorry driver...and maybe in the recent case, the bus driver...and hope the public is satisfied, but that is so wrong - for action must also be taken against employers/owners, and even government officers/agents who failed to ensure proper inspection of vehicles, and the requirement of safety devices to protect lives like seat belts, etc...

MEDIA plays in important role - not to deceive the public based on representations by police, etc - but to question also responsibilities of others responsible for the deaths/injuries - failure of government????

ACCIDENTS implies just that - a better word to use is traffic collision cases, until investigations reveal whether it was really an accident only, or an incident resulted by intention failings of someone, or intentional actions. So, then it is NO accident.

GERIK: "I woke up when I heard the driver shouting angrily. I don't know what he was angry at but the bus started swaying from side to side and then overturned."

This is what Farhana Ab Aziz remembered after she survived the horrific accident where 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students were killed at KM53 of the East-West Highway here on Monday (June 9).

Farhana, 23, said she heard noises from the driver's seat and saw he appeared to be angry before the bus sped up and became unstable.

"When the bus departed from Jertih, I fell asleep. But around 12.45am, I woke up because I heard the driver mumbling angrily.

"It wasn't clear why he was angry – whether it was the bus' condition or at a car in front – I'm not sure," she said when met by reporters at Gerik Hospital, reported Sinar Harian.

Farhana said some other students who were awake also tried to see what was going on.

Shortly after, she said, the bus started to sway and then overturned.

"Many were unconscious. My friends and I who were awake quickly looked for an exit.

"I was afraid of stepping on others," she said.

Another student, Rohadatul Aisy Mohd Zaki, 20, said she realised the bus was speeding after she was awaked by her friend seconds before the crash.

"I was thrown into the aisle. It was cramped and a friend tried to help me but I couldn't get up.

"After a few minutes, I managed to gather enough strength to get out of the bus," she said.

In the incident around 1am on Monday, 15 students died while 27 others were injured.

The 40-year-old bus driver and his 54-year-old assistant were also injured.

The accident is believed to have occurred when the bus collided with the rear of a multi-purpose vehicle before going out of control before overturning and crashing into the guardrail on the left of the road.

A family of four in the MPV survived with injuries and were treated at Baling Hospital in Kedah. Star, 9/6/2025
