MUDA(Malaysian United Democratic Alliance), a new political party...what does its Constitution say - what are its objectives...What is its stance/position on different issues.
Most of us know is that one of its founders, and now its President is Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who is MP who stood under Pakatan Harapan last GE... He is debater (well not very good, it means he is good at arguing a point ...but then debaters can be pro or con - so, what exactly does Syed Saddiq stand for and believe...) Worse, he '...has been charged with two counts of money laundering at the Sessions Court in Johor Baru, involving a total of RM100,000 (S$32,000).... in KL, he is facing '...a total of four charges involving criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of funds and money laundering of more than RM1 million,...' Of course, the fact that he is facing criminal charges is immaterial now as one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Then, other politicians have also faced criminal charges but then that was sedition, peaceful assembly charges, etc..
That may be Syed Saddiq - but then many of the founding members of MUDA, now in the Executive Committee, are GOOD people ... and MUDA is much more that its President...I believe..
So, now what does MUDA fight for and what is its position on fundamental issues ...
Should MUDA join Pakatan Harapan or fight on its own? Well, MUDA may have some sort of Electoral Pact with others to encourage a ONE to One fight....WELL, who exactly is the ONE that MUDA wants to fight against - BN, PN or PH? After all, was not Johor ruled by PH after GE14? So, this Johor elections is going to be confusing...Maybe, MUDA should try to contest on its OWN - taking this also as an opportunity of introducing MUDA, what it is fighting for, and its stance on different issues. To now join, and contest as a coalition member of PH or PN or BN may see the premature death of MUDA - the risk of losing its own identity even before it has properly introduced itself to us Malaysians ... Just my opinion, the party really needs to decide what it does..
Well, all we know is that it is a NEW political party...but what exactly is its stance on various issues? What is it fighting for really? How is it different? Why vote for MUDA and not the other political party...
DEMOCRACY - is it going to fight for the restoration of Local Council(Government) elections? Is it for democratic elections at kampungs, kampung baru, tamans - will it push for elected ketua kampungs, etc - and put an end to politically appointed local community leaders - the JKKKs
Detention Without Trial - is it for the abolition of detention without trial laws - POCA, POTA and the Dangerous Drugs Special Measures Act. Is it for the presumption of innocence until found guilty after a FAIR TRIAL for all.
SEDITION ACT - is it going to abolish the SEDITION ACT - an act where TRUTH is not a defence, and one is guilty if one's statement or act has a 'seditious tendency'
FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION - MUDA suffered the unjust Society Act. Will it remove the POWERS of the ROS to deny registration of societies/political parties > Will it allow the speedy registration of societies - note if a society breaks any law later, then they can be prosecuted. Will it remove the powers of the ROS to prevent decisions of the members of societies >> Now, a membership approved constitution change takes no effect unless the ROS says OK. Even if the society amends its constitution to increase or reduce membership fees - the ROS has the power now to deny the intention of the Society and the members. Same with the Registrar of Trade Unions >> will Freedom of Association be finally fully enjoyed by Malaysians.
PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY - will MUDA push for real peaceful assembly > no need to get police approval or police be able to set conditions - people should be free to organise and participate in any peaceful assembly. A one day notice to police simply so that police can be around to ensure unhindered exercise of our rights to peaceful assembly.
NO to GENDER Discrimination - Now, we have a law that gives the Malaysian MAN rights that is denied a Malaysian Women. Yes, when a child is born of a Malaysian man and a foreign spouse overseas, that child is entitled to Malaysian citizenship. However, when a child is born of a Malaysian WOMAN and foreign spouse, the child is not entitled to Malaysian citizenship.
ENVIRONMENT - Is MUDA for the protection of endangered species like the TIGER and helmeted hornbill - and will push for the PRESERVATION OF THE HABITAT of such endangered species. Current policy/law of merely criminalizing hunting and sale is simply not enough.
FOREST - Will MUDA be committed to protect all remaining forest in Malaysia, and ensuring that logging only be permitted in the many timber farms, etc
MUDA - will MUDA be against party-hopping > if anyone hops to another party after being elected whilst standing as a candidate of another party or as an 'independent', then automatic by-election with the incumbent having the right to stand for the by-election?
WORKERS - will MUDA push for:-
a) Increase of MINIMUM wage (but maybe just for the bigger employers having 10 or more workers, or who have recorded a profit of above RM...) The imposition of having to pay worker higher minimum wage on market sellers, small retail shops, most small business is not right.
b) Death and injury at the workplace in violation of Occupational Safety and Health requirement - the law provides that Directors, Managers, Officers in Charge can also be prosecuted but Malaysia only goes after the Company - and so, the human decision makers, that chose not to put in the safety measures gets of scot free.
c) Trade UNIONs - so much difficulty to get registered and thereafter to get recognized by the employer and be able to enter collective bargaining agreements > will MUDA work towards getting better worker and trade union rights.
FARMERS - many in Malaysia do not have their own land - so, will MUDA push for the provision of land for farmers, and if they are currently farming lands they do not own, mostly State land, will MUDA push for legalization of their lands they farm...
HEALTHCARE - will MUDA take the position that Malaysia will provide universal healthcare that is FREE for all, including heart healthcare which became too expensive after IJN came in and now charges unaffordable rates.
EMPLOYMENT SECURITY - will MUDA push for the abolition of 'short-term employment' and ensure that Malaysian workers enjoy REGULAR EMPLOYMENT - employment until retirement age or until the employer business cease operations. Of course, workers can still lose their jobs by reason of serious misconduct or RETRENCHMENT.
Will MUDA abolish the 'Contractor For Labour' system that came into being in 2006, initially affecting migrant workers and now local workers too. Here, the employer is the Contractor For Labour > not the owner/operator of your workplace. Such workers also cannot JOIN in-house trade unions, or even benefit from the Collective Bargaining Agreement between EMPLOYER and their employees only...
EDUCATION - Will MUDA guarantee free school education from kindergarten, and also FREE education in all government or GLC run colleges and universities. Financial aid/scholarship for those studying in educational institutions in Malaysia. Aid or student loans for those studying overseas...???
A political party must have its OWN PRINCIPLES, VALUES, POSITIONS - and not be a 'lallang' changing positions as it pleases...something many believe PH Plus did after coming into power...
First things first, MUDA need to get its own website - MUDA needs to start speaking up on the different issues so Malaysians will get to know MUDA...
At the time, where the 'enemy' was clear, as it was before the last elections - where the common enemy of the opposition was the BN - and the struggle was the ousting of the BN (UMNO led) government that had ruled since MERDEKA...today, it is no longer clear. 1MDB and kleptocracy was an issue - but now many are already in court...
TOUGH times, but Malaysia certainly needs new ALTERNATIVE PARTY - PH(PKR,DAP,Amanah,BERSATU) & Warisan had their chance to show their 'alternativeNESS' - but they missed the chance and ended up behaving similarly to the ousted BN...
So, will we have a NEW ALTERNATIVE ...another choice.
MUDA should, in my opinion, maybe stand on its own - WINNING may be tough but not impossible for this very new party...but it will certainly establish its IDENTITY.. It certainly must make more PUBLIC STATEMENTS ...
###Something odd, was why did MUDA go and apply to the District Office for permission to give aid(from donations it collected), or to help clean flood victim's houses >> nobody does that - we just go and HELP. After helping especially giving food/monies aid, maybe good to inform the authorities who was given aid but that too no need..
Muda to contest Johor elections
PETALING JAYA: The newly-registered Muda party has announced it will contest the coming Johor elections. The decision, announced tonight, comes after the party was apparently left out by the opposition Pakatan Harapan in seat negotiations.
Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and party secretary-general Nur Amira Aisyah Abd Aziz are expected to be fielded as candidates in Johor. Syed Saddiq, one of the founders of the party, is MP for Muar.
The party, officially registered last month, bills itself as the party for young Malaysians. About 6% of the 2.5 million voters in Johor comprise those aged 18 to 20 years old, following the lowering of the voting age.
Johor Muda chairman Mohd Azrol Rahani has said the party is currently preparing its machinery and manifesto for the elections, and that the party has more than 12,000 members in the state.
Muda had previously negotiated with PH to contest in the Melaka state elections on Nov 20.
However, Syed Saddiq then said Muda had decided not to work with PH
after the latter’s “insistence on putting up these frogs”, a reference
to two of the four Melaka assemblymen whose defections led to the fall
of the state government in October. - FMT, 28/1/2022
Malaysian ex-minister Syed Saddiq charged with money laundering
JOHOR BARU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has been charged with two counts of money laundering at the Sessions Court in Johor Baru, involving a total of RM100,000 (S$32,000).
The 29-year-old, who is also Muar MP, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before Judge Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail on Thursday (Aug 5).
According to the charge sheet, the accused had transferred RM50,000 from his bank account into his Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) account on June 16, 2018, and another RM50,000 on June 19 the same year.
The money was allegedly obtained through money laundering activities and the offence was said to have been committed at a bank in Taman Perling, Johor Baru.
The act is an offence under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, which provides for a maximum fine of RM5 million or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, if found guilty.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, Ahmad Akram Gharib and Mohd 'Afif Ali of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, while the accused was represented by Mr Gobind Singh Deo, who is also the Puchong MP.
Mr Wan Shaharuddin asked the court to apply for the same bail against Syed Saddiq that was imposed on the latter when he faced his charges at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.
The prosecution also asked the court to transfer the case to Kuala Lumpur as the prosecution witnesses were the same as for the case in Kuala Lumpur.
The court then allowed all the prosecution's applications and set Sept 10 for the next mention of the case at the Kuala Lumpur court.
On July 22, Syed Saddiq claimed trial at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to two counts of corruption relating to criminal breach of trust (CBT) and misappropriation of monies involving funds that belonged to his former party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
The 29-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges before Judge Azura Alwi.
According to the first charge, Syed Saddiq, as the youth leader of the party then, was entrusted with funds belonging to the party's youth wing Armada Malaysia and he allegedly committed CBT by withdrawing RM1 million using a cheque without the approval of Bersatu's top leadership.
The offence was allegedly committed at CIMB Bank in Menara CIMB KL Sentral on March 6 last year.
Syed Saddiq was charged under Section 405 of the Penal Code, which is punishable under Section 406 of the same Code, and faces up to 10 years' jail, caning and a fine.
For the second charge, Syed Saddiq was accused of misappropriating RM120,000 of contribution money belonging to Bersatu that was meant for the 14th general election in 2018.
He allegedly committed the offence at Maybank in Taman Pandan Jaya between April 8 and 21 that year.
The charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years, caning and a fine. - Straits Times, 5/8/2021
Syed Saddiq's criminal trial to begin in KL High Court on June 7
KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 19): Muar Member of Parliament (MP) Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who is facing a total of four charges involving criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of funds and money laundering of more than RM1 million, will have his case heard from June 7.
Presiding High Court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan set the trial dates after the four charges were read again to Syed Saddiq in the High Court on Wednesday (Jan 19). The man pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Justice Zaini set March 24 for case management and the trial dates as follows: June 7 to 10, 20 to 22 and 27 to 28; July 4 to 8, 13 to 15 and 18 to 22.
Syed Saddiq was represented by lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, who is also the Puchong MP, while the prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin.
Syed Saddiq reminded to 'separate his hat from being an accused and a politician'
On Tuesday, Justice Zaini reminded Syed Saddiq he was to “separate his hat from being a politician and an accused person in the court” when posting about the case on social media platforms.
Before that, Wan Shaharuddin told the judge that the accused should be mindful when commenting on the case on social media platforms as it can be used against him during the course of the trial.
“This is not a gag order against the accused. However, there are a few postings on [his] Facebook [page] about the case and his defence. I want to remind him, as someone who is older and more mature, that this can be used against him,” Wan Shaharuddin said.
“I ask him not to post anything that will affect his defence,” the prosecutor added.
Gobind, meanwhile, pointed out that as Syed Saddiq is a public figure, he will be asked by many quarters to state his position about the case and that some form of flexibility should be allowed.
“The accused will be asked to state his position [as] the public will want to know the details of the case. I have always said that some form of flexibility should be given to the accused to speak about the charges. However, we understand now that the trial is fixed for a hearing, we take note of this,” Gobind added.
Justice Zaini then cautioned: “He has to separate his hat from being a politician and an accused in the court. I am sure you will be able to advise your client on what to do.”
Charges against Syed Saddiq
On the first charge, Syed Saddiq is being charged as the then Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Armada (Youth) chief — who was entrusted with control of Armada funds — with committing CBT by withdrawing RM1 million via a CIMB Bank Bhd cheque without obtaining permission from the Bersatu supreme leadership council.
He is being charged with committing the offence at a CIMB Bank Bhd branch at Menara CIMB KL Sentral on March 6, 2020 — under Section 405 of the Penal Code, which is punishable under Section 406 of the same code. The code provides for maximum imprisonment of 10 years with whipping, and a possible fine, if convicted.
The former youth and sports minister also faces a charge of misusing RM120,000 in donations meant for the 14th general election campaign collected through a Maybank Islamic Bhd account owned by Armada Bumi Bersatu Enterprise.
The act was allegedly committed at Maybank Islamic Bhd, Taman Pandan Jaya here between April 8 and April 21, 2018. The charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years with whipping and a possible fine if convicted.
The other two charges involve alleged money laundering activities, namely two transactions of RM50,000 from his Maybank Islamic Bhd account into his Amanah Saham Bumiputera account, which are believed to be proceeds of illegal activities.
Syed Saddiq is alleged to have committed the acts at a bank in Jalan Persisiran Perling, Taman Perling here on June 16 and June 19, 2018.

JOHOR BAHRU: Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia's (Muda) offer to help clean houses and provide aid to flood victims in Muar was rejected because its application was incomplete, according to the Muar District Office.
In a statement issued here today, the district office said the Muar Disaster Operations Control Center (PKOB) received an application from Muda on Jan 12, but no specific location nor names of the recipients were mentioned for the programme.
It said the application by Muda was to carry out its programme today and tomorrow (Jan 15 and 16).
Applicants are required to list the names of the recipients for their contributions for coordination purposes, it said and that as of Jan 13, the contributions exceeded the needs of the victims.
Apart from the application by Muda, it said, the Muar District Office had also rejected applications for the same purpose by four others.
The statement was issued in response to a Facebook post by Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman on Jan 13, questioning the action by the Muar District Office in rejecting the application by Muda. -- BERNAMA , NST, 15/1/2022
