Should UMNO and BN Members of Parliament(MPs) be guided and act based on values and principles - or are they to act only as directed by the Presidents and executive committees of their parties? That is the question... I believe that every MP should act based on personal values and principles - and not be mere 'puppets' on a string controlled by the Prime Minister...or the Presidents of their respective political parties.
Now, who becomes the Prime Minister - depends on the MPs, all of them, they literally chooses - for a Prime Minister is determined by the peoson who 'commands the confidence of the majority of the members of the House (the Dewan Rakyat),...
And, how exactly is that determined - frankly, it should be a personal decision of the MPs - maybe in writing, or by a show of hand...or a vote. The decision is the decision of the individual MPs - there cannot be any presumption that MPs of a particular party MUST all have confidence in the same person their party leaders want to be the Prime Ministers...
43 Cabinet (Federal Constitution).(2) The Cabinet shall be appointed as follows, that is to say:(a) the Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall first appoint as Perdana Menteri (Prime Minister) to preside over the Cabinet a member of the House of Representatives who in his judgment is likely to command the confidence of the majority of the members of that House; and...(4) If the Prime Minister ceases to command the confidence of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives, then, unless at his request the Yang di-pertuan Agong dissolves Parliament, the Prime Minister shall tender the resignation of the Cabinet.
Now, a sitting Prime Minister can just as easily lose the confidence of the majority....
So, how would this loss of confidence be communicated to the Yang Di Pertuan Agung - well, it could be letters/Statutory Declaration of MPs collected and transmitted to the King as proof of this loss of confidence...or it could be by vote of no confidence in Parliament...
So, is this a plot to 'topple the government'?
In my opinion, it is not - it is merely an effort to possibly change the Prime Minister, something that is permitted by our Federal Constitution...
Must BN MPs who have lost confidence in the PM need to resign and join some other party, or be Independents?
In my opinion, there is no need - why should they? They would abandon their own political party because they have lost confidence in their own party - but if they still have confidence in their own party - but merely have lost the confidence in the sitting PM > they can simply communicate that loss of confidence..
It is interesting that new Deputy Prime Minister is talking about 'toppling the government' - when surely the acts that he mentioned is not...
Earlier today, Ahmad Zahid had claimed that this mystery person was attempting was "topple the government" by getting MPs from both sides of the divide to sign a seven-page statutory declaration.
Government - Remember the 3 branches of government > the Legilative, the Executive and the Judiciary...
Even, if there some 'plot' or initiative - it may really be about removing the sitting Prime Minister...the current head of the Executive branch of government. This certainly cannot be called 'toppling the government'.
If there is a plot to remove the King, well maybe that would be 'toppling the government'...but removing the Prime Minister by trying to get the majority of Members of Parliament to clearly state that they have lost their confidence in Najib ...is something that our Federal Constitution allows..
It is certainly not an offence to go and lobby our MPs to take a position that they have lost their confidence in Najib - so that our King can then act and do the needful - maybe even choose some other to be the Prime Minister, who has demonstrated that he/she now has the confidence of the majority...
I believe that Prime Minister Najib is really worried about UMNO and BN MPs...and so he has been reaching out to UMNO Divisions and members, and also the BN component parties...
...Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has challenged the Umno leader he claimed was planning to "topple the government", to deny it publicly....
...Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid warned Umno members against persecuting its leader based on perception....
This maybe all just an UMNO internal matter, and I am sure the party has its own disciplinary procedures - use that, and not some law of the land. Maybe, there is one 'mystery man' or maybe really there are a lot of UMNO mystery men, or even from other BN parties...who may be working towards removing Najib as PM, maybe even as UMNO President and the leader of BN?
Not naming the 'mystery man' is also a good strategy - now you can force UMNO members to come out 'publicly' and deny such plans...
Thus far, Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin has publicly stated that he was not the person mentioned by Ahmad Zahid.
Remember all that is needed is for more than 50% of the MPs to come out saying they have lost confidence in Najib...There is really no need for BN MPs to leave their parties...
And a new Prime Minister means a new cabinet - so Zahid Hamidi's position is also at risk...
So, if Najib is worried about the support he has amongst the MPs - he has the choice to 'request the
Yang Di-Pertuan Agong dissolves Parliament' and that means a new General Elections. But, then the King may say 'No', and then the PM and the Cabinet may have to tender their resignations.
Calling for a General Elections with Najib still the UMNO and BN President will also be worrisome for many in UMNO and BN - because the current culture in these parties would still give Najib a lot of power in choosing the candidates...
So, what option? Would we soon be seeing an EGM of UMNO - to try and oust the UMNO President? Remember, that even if Najib is no more UMNO President, there is nothing preventing him from continuing to be Prime Minister...OR maybe again a deal may be struck...with Najib maybe agreeing to resign as PM and Party President at some specified time in the future (Oh yes.. this did happen once before in Malaysia. so the possibility of it happening again is also there..).
Now, it is important for all to realize that more important is doing the right thing for the good of Malaysia and Malaysians...not for money, not for position, not for 'political security', not because FEAR,...
Be true to yourself... MPs of Malaysia...
Putsch plot: DPM dares mystery man to deny it...
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid
Hamidi has challenged the Umno leader he claimed was planning to "topple
the government", to deny it publicly.
"If he has guts, this person must deny it through the press," said Ahmad Zahid.
Speaking at the Klang Umno division annual general meeting today, Ahmad Zahid said that the plot and its plotter was real.
"I know this thing is happening because as Home Minister, I receive information and I will also find out who is behind it.
"I don't have to expose the person as this will reveal itself," he said, according to Bernama.
Earlier today, Ahmad Zahid had claimed that this mystery person was attempting was "topple the government" by getting MPs from both sides of the divide to sign a seven-page statutory declaration.
Once that is done, the MPs will declare that they have the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
Court of perception
Despite challenging the person to deny it, Ahmad Zahid did not provide any names.
Thus far, Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin has publicly stated that he was not the person mentioned by Ahmad Zahid.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid warned Umno members against persecuting its leader based on perception.
"This is because there are four types of courts, namely the court of justice, people's court who are the voters, court of perception and court of public opinion.
"It is unfair for our nation's top leaders, especially (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak), to be judged by the court of public opinion and court of perception because we know they cannot do that.
"I urge that UMNO members not get involved with unqualified judges from these two 'courts'," he said.
