About 4 BERSATU Members of Parliament apparently declared support for PM Anwar and the PH-led coalition government - it is ABSURD. It will not be foolish if any Opposition MP declares support for say the Budget, or a particular Bill tabled - It is nonsense if 'total support' is given to the PM and the current government.
Likewise, it is OK for the government parties MPs to oppose any particular Bill tabled by the government.
In any event, support for the current government is IRRELEVANT - the only thing that is important is support for the sitting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. For, if Anwar loses the majority support of all MPs, then he will be forced to resign, and we will have a new Prime Minister.
Even if Anwar Ibrahim loses the confidence of the majority of MPs, there may be no change in government for the PH-led coalition may still be government and someone else may become Prime Minister.
This happened when Perikatan-BN ruled, PM Muhyiddin was replaced by PM Ismail Sabri.
So, the question is WHY these about 4 MPs allegedly declared unconditional support for PM Anwar, if true?
Should the MACC investigate?
Note, even the government parties MPs have NOT declared unconditional support for Anwar and the PH-led Coalition government - It is a general support, but they have the right to OPPOSE bad laws and policies.
If Anwar tabled a law abolishing elections so that Anwar and this government will remain in power indefinitely, would all the MPs support? Will the 4 BERSATU MPs support?
Remember Zahid was President of UMNO beyond the 3-year term in office. What if the law is passed to extend the term of Anwar as PM? That is why declaration of unconditional support is dangerous. If something good and just is tabled, we support - if not, we oppose.
MPs 'jumping' is common - and most jump to the parties that hold government power - hence possibility to get access to more monies, contracts and other benefits - This happened after GE14, and saw the number of BERSATU MPs rising..
People really need to EVALUATE the persons they choose as MPs > you certainly do not want to vote those who will betray principles and values for possible personal benefits...
If there is to be allocations from the Federal Government to MPs - it must be the same irrespective of whether the MP supports Anwar or not. But I am against any 'development allocations' to MPs as monies for whatever development or maintenance already has been allocated to the relevant Ministry and government departments.
Allocations should be to for the maintenance of service centers, and salaries for staff assisting MPs. The number of service centres and staff may be based on the size of the constituency.
If the MP does not leave the party, under which he contested and won the elections, the Party Hopping Law does not disqualify him/her. Disqualification happens only if the MP leaves the party on his/her own.
If his/her party sacks him, he/she is again not disqualified.
So, these 4 BERSATU MPs have not left their party - so they still qualify to remain as MPs. If BERSATU expell them, they still remain MPs.
That is why we need another mechanism for the constituents to EXPEL their MPs - one way is where a majority of the constituents(50% plus 1) sign a petition for the removal of their MP - then the MP is removed, and there will be a by-elections.
Remember the Anti-Party Hopping Law was to protect the right of the constituents/voters - not the right of political parties, and that was RIGHT. We do not want parties to 'CONTROL' their MPs using the threat of expulsion- that leads to disqualification of MPs.
It is always wrong to assume that all MPs from a political party vote the same. In fact, did Anwar Ibrahim, when the vote of confidence happen, have the support of majority of the MPs. It was a 'voice vote' - and thus the votes were never really counted, were they.
One Parliamentary Reform needed - is transparency as to how a MP votes - Voters/Constituents/People have the right to know how their MP voted - did he support, oppose, abstain or 'simply was absent' - So, disclose names and how they voted, every time there is a VOTE in Parliament.
Jeli MP becomes fourth Bersatu rep to declare support for PM Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Jeli member of Parliament Zahari Kechik from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is the latest Opposition representative to declare his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his unity government.
However, Zahari said in a statement today that he is still loyal to Bersatu and remains a party member.
“After researching, processing and weighing the problems faced by the people recently regarding the cost of living, constraints on the basic needs that need to be improved and the development that must be continued in the Jeli parliamentary constituency, I declare my support for the prime minister starting from today,” he said in a statement.
Zahari also stressed that his declaration of support was made without any coercion, influence, or pressure from any party.
He said it was done out of his own free will for the sake of his constituents who remain his priority until the next general election.
“I am aware that the people must be prioritised, and development must be continued without any compromise.
“In this challenging millennium, as a member of Parliament, I must provide the best service for the people in the Jeli parliamentary constituency,” he said.
Zahari added that he pledges to support any policies and initiatives that the unity government undertakes to improve the national economy as well as the welfare and interests of the people.
He also said that he is ready to face disciplinary action for breaching party rules.
Zahari said that this is to ensure that both voters and constituents do not miss out on any development opportunities and assistance from the government.
Following today’s announcement, Zahari joins a growing list of Bersatu MPs who have declared their support for the prime minister and his unity government since last month.
They are Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar).
