Malaysian Airlines terminated the President of National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (NUFAM), and now suspends 7 others

Malaysian Airlines(MAS) anti-union activities seem to be continuing and not ending. Earlier, MAS suspended  president of the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (NUFAM), Ismail Nasaruddin, and 2 weeks later terminated him without even a Domestic Inquiry.  ITUC makes it 43 groups calling on MAS to revoke suspension on Union president

Now, even more worker leaders are being affected by the wrongful actions of MAS. What is disturbing for this most recent disciplinary action of MAS is that it is in relation to comments made in the Union's facebook page - This is certainly a violation of the freedom of expression - more so the freedom that workers and members of the UNION to be able to communicate with one another in their own UNION's Facebook page. This is unacceptable behavior by MAS, a Malaysian government-linked company and can be perceived as a 'union busting' and anti worker rights.

7 more cabin crew suspended, says Nufam

PETALING JAYA (Dec 19, 2013): Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has suspended another seven cabin crew members for posting comments on the union's Facebook page, the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) said.

MAS had earlier suspended and subsequently sacked its chief steward and Nufam president Ismail Nasaruddin over his call for MAS CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya to resign.

In a statement yesterday, Nufam called for the immediate release of the suspension of its members, saying it is against the rights and freedom of trade union members.

"MAS has again acted beyond their provisions as a government-linked company against Nufam members by suspending seven of its cabin crew members over the last several weeks. Most of these suspended cabin crew members are female employees who have worked with the airline for a long time," said Nufam.

Nufam claimed that the Facebook forum where the seven cabin crew members had posted comments, is a closed forum meant for its union members only.

The union said it has filed a report to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, urging them to investigate discrimination issues and the violation of human rights and trade union laws within MAS.- The Sun Daily, 19/12/2013, 7 more cabin crew suspended, says Nufam
