The Human Rights Commission
of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF), the
Bar Council Malaysia and the Society for the Promotion of Human Rights (PROHAM)
and the United Nations Country Team in Malaysia are commemorating Human
Rights Day on 7th of December under the theme of ‘Rights and Freedoms as a Foundation for an
Inclusive Future’. This day invites
us to reflect on the importance of promoting and protecting the human rights
and fundamental freedoms of all people when moving forward to an inclusive and
prosperous future anchored on people.
The event will be launched by YB Senator Datuk Paul Low
Seng Kuan,
Minister in Prime Minister’s Department in Charge of Human Rights, Governance
and Integrity, and will be followed by a Panel discussion echoing the voices of
various vulnerable groups and communities in the Malaysian society. Each
panellist will offer their perspective on how to unleash the full potential,
capacities and abilities of people of all ages and backgrounds to contribute to
inclusive sustainable development and how development outcomes can be shared more
equitably. The afternoon session will present a diverse programme to show how
civil society are advocating for human rights in Malaysia. Various groups will
be hosting booths and exhibitions during the afternoon, and a human library
will be showcased allowing participants to be part of a journey of human
