GERAKAN misses the point about the right to Peaceful Assembly or protest. The objective is for people to publicly lobby and express their views and opinions. It is meant to LOBBY greater support from the public. It is to demonstrate that this is a common concern/view/opinion of many persons not just a few....That is the very reason why such Peaceful Assembly/Rally/Protest...must be held in a public place - not in some stadium, hall or enclosed compound.
A peaceful assembly is a place where many people, the participants, can all express their views and opinions - Freedom of Expression...Freedom of Opinion...
It is not a FORUM/Talk/Ceramah... where in such events, it is mainly only the speakers that express their opinions/views...to a gathered audience wanting to listen and consider their views. A PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY, on the other hand, is where everyone that participates express their opinions - by their very presence, their chants, the banners, the leaflets they distribute.
Have the BERSIH Peaceful Assemby in a 'medium-size stadium' - that is what GERAKAN is proposing, and are willing to even pay the cost. What is the use for the like-minded to gather in a room and express themselves...to one another > it defeats the very purpose of the peaceful assemby/protest.
GERAKAN members must really join in the BERSIH peaceful assembly if they agree with the objectives...or are they stopping members because it is contrary to Najib's or BN views. Just because you are part of BN - do not stay away from activities that are promoting a legitimate concern...What exactly is GERAKAN's position about FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS?
Are they happy with the current state of affairs OR are they just fearful to go go against Najib and the government? GERAKAN used to stand up and express their views, even if it was against the government of the day...
Gerakan offers RM20,000 for Bersih stadium rally
Youth wing says donors have pledged to pay for renting a stadium 'to avoid chaos' from street rally.
PETALING
JAYA: The Gerakan party has made a renewed attempt to persuade the
electoral reform group Bersih to hold its proposed Nov 19 Bersih 5 rally
in a stadium and not on the streets.
Gerakan Youth leader Tan Keng Liang offered RM20,000, pledged by donors to rent a stadium.
“We are confident that a medium-sized stadium is enough,” Tan told
reporters in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
He said the offer was made to
“prevent chaos, like in Bersih 3”, according to Malaysiakini.
Tan said various donors had pledged RM17,000, with Gerakan Youth
topping up the amount to RM20,000.
He said there were also offers of
assistance to provide free use of a stadium for Bersih.
The ceramahs will take place in Kangar, Lumut, Kota Bharu, Johor Bahru, Sandakan and Miri to raise support for the street rally. - FMT News, 17/9/2016
