Claims of Rela men abusing power
KUALA LUMPUR: Suhakam will meet the Rela authorities next week over complaints on abuse of power by some members.
Commissioner Datuk N. Siva Subramaniam said members were said to be destroying documents belonging to migrant workers.
“Rela members should not misuse their power and must act within the law,” he told reporters after receiving a memorandum from Suaram over this issue yesterday.
In the memorandum, Suaram called on the Government to stop allowing Rela to conduct raids.
Suaram also urged the Government to release mothers and children among those detained in the detention camps at Lenggeng and Juru.
Siva Subramaniam said he would visit the camp in Lenggeng tomorrow.
He also said Suhakam would conduct an inquiry on Nov 13 into the death of police detainee K. Suresh.
