Why did Selangor Government 'arrest' persons exercising freedom of assembly in their state?...

What is the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government policy on freedom of assembly and expression on the Selangor soil?

Twenty-two of the 23 people detained during a candlelight vigil in front of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) last night were freed on police bail this morning.

MCPX
The group, who were released at 7am, has been asked to report back to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters on Nov 24.

The detainee who is still in police custody is being investigated for other cases. It is unsure if he would be remanded or charged.

The vigil was held to protest the use of the Internal Security Act and to commemorate the first anniversary of the Nov 10 Bersih rally. - Malaysiakini, 10/11/2008 - Candlelight vigil: All but one freed

What about State sovereignity?

Where were the Selangor State Police ...or the Local Council Enforcement officers ? Should they have not been there to protect the right to peaceful assembly and expression in Selangor?

But then - did anyone hear the Selangor MB coming out yet and condemning the police action in dispersing a 'candle light vigil' and arresting 23 in the State of Selangor?

Well, the Pakatan Rakyat must come out with a policy on the freedom of assembly, freedom of expression and freedom of opinion for the Pakatan Rakyat states - and the Police must be made aware of this policy, and be told that their services are not required or needed in these States when it comes to persons exercising their right to assemble and protest...

Side Issue:- I wonder whether the Selangor MB and his EXCO would have also been arrested by the police yesterday if they took part in that public assembly?

The State of Selangor is no more under the BN - and the BN controlled police should be reminded about State sovereignity -- about the fact that we are a Federation...blah...blah...blah..

Pakatan Rakyat should also designate places for persons to assemble and protest - places like the field in front of AMCORP Mall, the area that looks like a park between the Civic Centre and the road...etc.. {not some stadium/places where no passer-by can see the expressions of dissent/protest/support...}

They came to my house and arrested my guest - how will the Selangor MB and government respond?

Did you know one Selangor state exco, one Selangor ADUN and a selangor state councillor was arrested yesterday

Don't comment without knowing the facts. MAybe the MB did not come, that does not mean he condones the police action.

For your information, I am not a PKR member or PR supporter. Just want to correct the facts
Thanks

In the Federation of Malaysia, the police and internal security are under control of the Federal government...

That being said in the Federation of Malaysia, the states are more like slaves to the federal government~

federal police ,more powerful than state lar maca.....

Charles, please get your facts right before your wild and generalized comments betray your hostility to the PR state govt of Selangor. The Police come under the federal govt, thus the state has no authority over them. In other words, they are a federal, not state outfit, just like the army and immigration personnel. In case you did not read the news, PR exco member Ronnie Liu was arrested together with PR ADUN for Kg Tunku, Lau Weng San, not to mention MP Tony Pua. Buck up Charles before anyone accuses you of having an axe to grind against the PR Selangor state govt

Pakatan Rakyat should also designate places for persons to assemble and protest - places like the field in front of AMCORP Mall, the area that looks like a park between the Civic Centre and the road.

Once designated by Zoning it under specific state Laws, Police Act and Penal Code cannot be applied to these places so designated.

Charles, U are right to point out this.

Syabas to all Peacemakers.

Kudos to you Prince Charles for voicing this issue. Yes! THe MB of Selangor must take an proactive role in this abolishing of ISA.

Wasn't Anwar a victim of ISA?

When comes to land matters, state's reign overrides Federal's reign.

Hence the state government is responsible to this fiasco.

It's high time the PR government takes charge on the reign of the states of affairs of the state.

The MB of Selangor is zzzzzz. Isn't the MB determined by the Selangorites?

Hence the state police chief is under the jurisdiction of the state government!

Isn't the Sultan of Selangor has the sovereignty of the State when comes to state royal matters?

The BN putras are fond of overriding the power of the states and hence crossing it's boundary!

Hey! The rakyat didn't elect this pm who was elected by a mere 191 Umno divisions using money politics which is a criminal act.

Hence this Federal Government is a criminal government. If the police is to enforce the rule of law, the police should put all the Umno putras into Sungei Buloh and not the righteous citizans who are trying to right the wrong!

Hence the state government must rein the Selangor state police force and sack the Selangor's illegal police chief who in fact a criminal himself.

Hence the state government must convene a state meeting to have this police chief gangster sacked sacked sacked!!!!

Otherwise what is the point of the rakyat giving superior powers to the PR to have righteous rakyat being jailed by criminals (police.

This is the greatest joke in the world.

Have powers but plain stupid not knowing how to use it?

Has the PR zzzzz or busily looking for lobang ala those corrupt Bn putras spearheaded by the former Indonesian illegal squatter?

POLICE OF MALAYSIA ARE RUN BY ANIMALS CALLED SI BOTAK UMNO AND THEY ARE NOT RAKYATS FRIENDLY NO MATTER HOW PEACEFUL THE RAKYATS MAY BE THEY WILL BE ATTACKED SO UNDER SI BOTAK UMNO, MALAYSIA IS NO LONGER PEACEFUL THEY NOT ONLY SCARE OFF CAPITAL INVESTMENT IN MALAYSIA WITH THEIR SELECTIVE USE OF ISA AGAINST BLOGGERS NOT TERRORISTS LIKE THE POLICEMEN WHO ATTACKED PEACEFUL RAKYATS BUT THEY NOW SCARED OFF THE TOURISTS WHO USE TO VISIT PEACEFUL MALAYSIA NOW NO LONGER. SI BOTAK UMNO IS NOW MORE FAMOUS THAN ALTANTUYA IN TERMS OF POLICE BRUTALITY UNDER HIS GREAT GUIDANCE.

Too long has the Federal Government and most state governments been UMNO led-BN governments.

So much so the State governments and the Sultans have become insignificant - and shown very little respect by the Federal Government.

Who does the police in Selangor listen to? The Sultan? The Menteri Besar? ...and if you say it only listens to the IGP and the PM - I ask you why is that so?

Why must it remain so?

If the police in Selangor do not want to listen to the Selangor State Government - then maybe, it is time for the State to just tell the Federal police to take a hike and leave Selangor...

There must be respect to the Sultan..to the Menteri Besar and the government of State..

The field in front of AMCORP Mall and the PJ Civic Centre comes under the management and jurisdiction of the PJ Local Council - the Local Government. And as such should the police act alone or with the approval of the Local Authority as well...

We have to change our mind-set, which have become fixated over the past 51 years...we have to change things...and the Pakatan Rakyat State Governments are in the position to change things - and they should do so now...

Changes and reforms can already be brought at the State Level - Local Council level - Kampung/Taman/Kampung Baru level...so we need to do it now..

One Selangor State Exco..1 ADUN - 1 Local Councillor arrested - but what is the SELANGOR GOVERNMENT'S Reaction...

What is the LOCAL COUNCIL's reaction?

The reaction to that recent arrest was just the same as would have been before March 2008 - before Pakatan Rakyat was voted in as the government of Selangor..

WHY IS THAT SO?

THAT IS MY CHALLENGE...

How long have you been a lawyer?
Do you not know what is state and federal jurisdiction?

"If the police in Selangor do not want to listen to the Selangor State Government - then maybe, it is time for the State to just tell the Federal police to take a hike and leave Selangor..."

Since when do we have 'state police'? Or have you been inhaling a wee too much?

Dear Charles,

Is it not time for the States to have their own Police Forces. at least then we can compare the services rendered by the relevant State Forces. Today, one mammoth set of thugs threaten and beat up civilians and particularly, with great relish or under specific directions, the Pakatan Rakyat elected leaders. The Sultan of Selangor is unable to protect his State subjects. The Menteri Besar seems dumb founded not able to command and direct the State Police.

Then what the heck did we waste our time and effort to elect our Pakatan State leaders if they cannot provide safety and support for their citizens. I am a Selangor born citizen of the Sultan of Selangor. That is what I was taught in school and I stil believe that my state head of state is HH the Sultan of Selangor.

Come on. Pakatan Leaders. Read your Law Books and start exerting yourselves. We did not elect you to get ourselves bashed up by simian looking morons.

If need be enact the necessary State Laws to defend and prtect the citizens who live in Selangor.

The Barisan Nasional cronies are lost for ideas or in the way to govern a country. They are hopping around like a bee hive on fire. Hence their malady has no cure except being sent out of Parliament and possibly to Guantanamo - after the USA vacates it shortly.
