PETALING JAYA: Fifty members of the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BBC) will leave for Taiwan on an eight-day study trip starting Monday.
Some 50 MPs out of a total of 78 are expected to take part in the programme, which was organised to explore Taiwan’s agricultural and industrial technology.
BBC chairman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said they decided to go to Taiwan, and not China, as they were short of time.
“Initially, we wanted to go to China but as we did not have enough time to process our visas, we decided on Taiwan instead,” he told The Star’s Malay news portal mStar.
He said the initial plan was to have a 12-day trip, but it was shortened due to the Ramadan. - Star, 8/9/2008 -50 Barisan MPs begin eight-day study trip
And guess what, they are apparently paying for the trip themselves -- Bung Mokhtar said that trip was 'self-funded'. How great it is if this was really true - our 'wakil rakyat' taking out their own money from their own pockets to pay for a trip overseas so that they can understand better "...agricultural and industrial technology...".
Deputy BBC chairman Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin said the delegation would depart from the KL International Airport at 11.15am today.
He said their trip was self-funded, while their itinerary would be handled by the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei.- Star, 8/9/2008 -50 Barisan MPs begin eight-day study trip
Will they also have them 'belly dancers' (oops that was some other study trip...?
Finding halal food... and food in the early morning for our Muslim MPs will also be difficult in Taiwan... I always thought that the month of Ramadan was a time to be with family and local community - but then 8 days away is, maybe OK...
If it was an all-paid trip....or even a partially subsidized trip - maybe then 50 MPs may choose to go to Taiwan (whose climate is not exactly the same as Malaysia) for a trip to study sgriculture...
If was the Minister, Deputy Minister or Parliamentary Secretary of the Agricultural Ministry, it may have made more sense. If it was the Agricultural DG and the staff of that Ministry, it would have made more sense...and here they would have really been able to understand what was being shown to them, and to ask relevant questions to see its relevance to Malaysian conditions, or the possibility of it being aboe to be adapted to the Malaysian situation.
These BBC MPs should have emulated the PM - when he took the LRT ride to understand the state of affairs of public transport in Malaysia. The BBC MPs (and in fact all MPs) should really have study trips locally to understand the plight of the people....take the LRT, the Commuter, take the Public Bus in Temerloh, etc..
Go visit a construction site - and understand the conditions of work - and maybe also get educated about Occupational Health and Safety..
Spend a night at the police lock-ups in Klang Valley - and that will be a very good 'study trip'...
Going to Taiwan for 8 days during the fasting month to study '"...agricultural and industrial technology..." - and thinking Malaysians may find it hard to believe that really was the object of the trip - OR that the MPs are paying for the trip themselves...
Where's that ACA or the the government 'audit' - investigate and tell Malaysians where the money for the trip is really coming from...?
We also want to know HOW MUCH is being spent for the trip? Is it Malaysian peoples' money that could have been utilized better for something else...

Just one word ....Bollocks!!!
You think Malaysians must be fools to believe his story of BN Mps paying out of their own pockets for this so-called Agricultural trip? Once again the BN is insulting our intelligence, failing to learn from the lesson of the last GE and Permatang Pauh by-election. Everyone knows that the trip was to prevent the MPs from defecting to Anwar Ibrahim come 16 Sept. Simple as that. It appears that each time Anwar makes a move, the UMNO/BN's panicky reaction makes the situation even worse for them. Anwar may take power sooner than 16 Sept the way things go.
Bullshit!!!!!
all i can utter is... malaysia boleh!!!
The 'ALISAN' aborigines are part of the Polynesian adventurers who settled in Taiwan. The Alisans look distinctly like the Philippino, Malays, Sabahans, SUluwesians. Those living in Taiwan has some so called Malay words in their vocabulary. So maybe the delegation is going there to visit their long lost cousins??
Taiwan imports 50% of cooking oil in terms of SBO and the balance is LARD. Due to their ingenuity, they managed to remove the cloud point of the lard so that it does not turn cloudy even at low temperatures. So PEOPLE's Representative, go vegetarian and its cooked with SBO (it is plentiful in Taiwan), or enjoy your fill as 90% of the food is cooked with the by-product of the oink, oink.
Now, the question is how many of us ordinary citizens striving to earn a living and barely making it believe the government's statement? This present government, especially those UMNO politicians, have ZERO credibility with us. Nothing they say earns the respect and belief of majority of Malaysians.
Now, the question is how believable are the statements from those so-called leaders of the government? TO study agriculture and self-funded?!!! Yeh right, and my father is the Pope !!
Alas, the phrase "self-funded" could be interpreted in the following manner:
1) it was misquoted by the reporters
2) self=Malaysian=Tax-payers, as opposed to foreign fundings such as the Great SATAN US of A, or some other benovelent Middle East countries.
Own pockets? I'll be the Queen of England!!!
I am asking my friends in Taiwan to watch out for this group of vips from Malaysia if they are on a study trip or feasting in the Taiwanese Hotels. They will also be interviewed and filmed by TVB8 of Taiwan. We'll see
Jimmy
yah and get reimbursed later when they return!!!! Smart-eh?
All these BN MPs must be investigated when they arrive Malaysian Airport on the 15 September.Let see whether ACA will do it. We the rakyat want to know who pay for the trip and why? If own money where do they get the money and how? This is really disgusting.
You could easily ask a hundred questions about all this but then again does these fellas really care. The organisers are maybe using what ever means to derail Anwar.Just wonder how broad their minds are but it also tells me what minds they really have.
-Ex Neutral.
Why Mp's for the trip ? I mean wouldn't it be better to send the engineers and scientists. If they are really interested in technology transfer and learning, aren't these professionals better choice than the MP's. Lets face it our MP's are a bunch of dumb asses. What are they going to learn? Besides "ini trip pakai sapa punya duit"?
It's bullshit!!! I'm already fedup with the govt.!!
These guys don't look the type. I mean agriculture types. Too fat..
