Is the government 'spying' on you? '...Johor Crown Prince Tunku
Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has claimed that he and his father, Sultan Ibrahim
Sultan Iskandar, are being monitored through their social media
accounts by certain parties using intelligence technology...'
Well, for a long time, we suspected that our government was monitoring our private communication, our phones and smartphones, and even our internet and social media ....AND THEN THE GOVERNMENT PUBLICLY DISCLOSED THAT THEY WERE DOING SO - THEY ADMITTED TO MONITORING OUR INTERNET USAGE INCLUDING OUR SMARTPHONES...But, sadly there was very little protest to this invasion of our right to privacy...
It was reported that the Malaysian police, being ‘….the Bukit Aman's Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11) principal assistant director Ong Chin Lan said the new Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children Investigation Unit (MICAC) will build a "data library" of pornography users and their surfing preferences…. “We will pick up those who visit these sites regularly. We use software that was specially developed to allow us to identify, locate and track visits to porn sites, especially those involving child porn. “The intelligence we get will be passed on to the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), so we can obtain the internet users’ details," she said, adding that those being monitored could be called in for questioning or even arrested from their homes…. Internet users who view pornography from the "relative safety" of their mobile phones will not be spared from scrutiny under this system. (Malaysiakini, 9/7/2018)
Why? Because they said that they were doing this because of the fight against pornography...Many may not have wanted to protest because they believed that if they do so, they may be seen as being not against 'child pornography' ...
BUT that was the mistake - what the government was doing was VERY WRONG - it was an invasion against our PRIVACY. What is to stop the government monitoring everything else...our personal communications, our internet activities, our 'private comments' to friends, etc...
Hence by not protesting the monitoring of our communications and activity vide our Smartphones and computer, WE may have inadvertently said 'IT IS OK' to such monitoring ...I do not remember a single Member of Parliament speaking out on this issue..BUT at least, several civil society groups in ASEAN spoke out - see Respect privacy and no to monitoring of internet usage or activity in Malaysia, say ASEAN NGOs (The Online Citizen, 20/7/2018)
* Sadly, Malaysian media did not carry this important statement.

PETALING JAYA: Johor Crown Prince Tunku
Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has claimed that he and his father, Sultan Ibrahim
Sultan Iskandar, are being monitored through their social media
accounts by certain parties using intelligence technology.
He said this was revealed to him by "government officials", claiming
cyber troopers were being planted on their Facebook pages to monitor
their statements "in case there is something that does not go down well
with certain higher-ups".
The outspoken Tunku Ismail said a few officials had told him that
this monitoring device was used by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption
Commission, Special Branch and the Prime Minister's Officer, among
others, and that while it was necessary for national security, it should
not be used for personal gain.
"I know the former government used this, but this is supposed to be
Malaysia Baru – it is no place for such practices any longer.
"It is not nice when officials come to me saying that my father, the
Sultan of Johor, and I are being monitored. Yes, I am vocal and that is
simply because I care for Johor and its people," he said in a post on
Facebook last night.
Tunku Ismail said he would not stand should there be parties trying
to take advantage of the people of Johor or break the unique unity that
they have.
"Let me be clear, I have nothing against the government. Johor has always had the policy of supporting the ruling government.
"That said, we will give our support when the right things are done.
Yet we will not be silent when wrongs are being committed," he said.
"Last but not least, the only thing people want to see is the
government prioritising progress, not having squabbles within the
country. I pray that the government can fulfil its promises to the
people," he added.
Tunku Ismail said his revelation came after he was approached by an
individual to purchase a similar device being used by the government
which is used to spy on people and gather intel.
He added that this technology was also used pre-election, to help in
terms of cyber warfare, but stopped short of mentioning by which party. - The Sun Daily, 9/9/2018
