Hannah Yeoh - Change the NAME of Residents Representative Council (MPP) - when in fact it is really a government appointed committee to look after some area - so should we call it for what it is - Government Representative Council or DBKL Representative Council or MADANI Representative Council > IT IS CERTAINLY NOT A RESIDENTS REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL - because such a council would be democratically elected by the people/the residents - how can political appointees be true RESIDENT's Representatives..
Why is this Anwar Ibrahim-led (Pakatan Harapan led MADANI goverment) continuing the 'LIES' started by the then BN REGIME? Political Appointee Kampung/Kampung Baru/Taman or Residents Representative Council (MPP)/Community/ 'leaders' are misrepresented as PEOPLES' REPRESENTATIVES - they are no more than representatives of the 'incumbent government'.
When will Malaysian get genuine PEOPLES' PARTICIPATION and genuine people chosen leaders of community - Malaysia do not need 'REGIME CHANGE" because this kind of local leadership are already 'chosen' by government - not by the people.
Peoples' Representative like MPs and ADUNs - are peoples' representative because they are chosen by the people through a Free and Fair Elections...so, they can be called peoples' representatives...
Residents Representative Council (MPP) is NOT democratically elected by the PEOPLE or in this case the RESIDENTS of the particular area... so they are NOT Residents' Representatives - they are Government Representatives - political appointees, and in the recent 'scandal' they were Anwar Ibrahim's PKR party representatives - political appointees of PKR???
Residents Representative Council (MPP), in my opinion, is nothing but a POLITICAL APPARATUS of the incumbent government to get and maintain support for the party in the next elections.
It is an ABUSE OF POWER by the government, denying genuine peoples' representatives.
By the appointment of 'THEIR' people/supporters to be Residents Representative Council (MPP), JKKK, Ketua Kampung, Ketua Kampung - also insulates them from CRITICISMS from the people of the failings/wrongdoings of the government >> because quickly the 'political appointee' so called 'heads of the community', the kampung, etc comes out against the 'voices of the people' claiming that they are the TRUE representative of the village/community/etc...
WORSE, when these 'political appointees' ABUSE THEIR POWER - giving approvals without the knowledge or agreement of the people they represent...WHY? For money but usually because that is what the people/party that appointed wants - even if such consent was NOT in the BEST INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE they allegedly represent...Take LYNAS and the Lynas Permanent Depository Facility - did the people living close by approve the factory of the PDF? Probably NOT - but maybe the 'political appointee' leaders, claiming to represent the people in these communities, may have APPROVED on behalf of the people.
NOW, a viral video alleging 2 PKR 'political appointees' in Residents Representative Council (MPP) solicited protection money from a business premises. If found GUILTY of such CRIME - should also Anwar Ibrahim and PKR also be responsible - after all, was it not PKR who picked these 2 to be appointed in the MPP? Anwar, as it is, has a BAD track record of choosing people - remember his then political secretary has been charged in December 2025 with four counts of corruption? Now these 2 PKR members - even for 'political appointees', Anwar should ensure that they a CLEAN GOOD people - not people who may 'abuse powers' for their own benefit???
Remember, LYNAS factory could not have begun and/or continue in operation WITHOUT the approval of the LOCAL COUNCIL, in this case Majlis Bandaraya Kuantan (MBK) (Kuantan City Council) - and who makes up this Local Government > it is again 'political appointees' of the incumbent State government - not democratically elected by people LOCAL COUNCILLORS.
The MBK can just approved the planning permission of the Permanent Depository Facility > Do the people of KUANTAN and also the community really approve of Lynas and the PDF - which by the way is about 10 Km...
These local chieftains have titles such as tuai rumah (in the longhouses), ketua kampung in the Malay villages and pemanca and penghulu for the urban residents. These local chieftains preside over community welfare matters and they have the authority to sign supporting documents and official letters to government agencies and political offices.
Wonder whether the people in Felda Neram Satu, Felda Bukit Kuantan, Felda Bukit Sagu and Felda Bukit Goh were even consulted b4 they soon will have to live so close to the Lynas PDF - or was the 'no objections' merely given by political appointee leaders of the affected community.
It is strange that the people of Kuantan and nearby areas seems 'UNCONCERNED' about the possible RISK to health and environment of a RARE EARTH processing plant, and soon a PDF so close to where they live... IF THEY DON'T CARE - SHOULD OTHERS CARE?
...rare earth firm's toxic byproducts will be just three kilometres away from the nearest Felda settlement - Felda Neram Satu. Other Felda settlements within a 10km radius of the waste facility include Felda Bukit Kuantan, Felda Bukit Sagu and Felda Bukit Goh.
People's REPRESENTATIVE MP Fuziah Salleh was once a strong ADVOCATE against Lynas - but these days, we hear very little from her. Did she ONLY object to Lynas when she was MP - and now no more??
"Does the Pahang state government want to jeopardise the safety of the people of Kuantan by allowing a PDF of Lynas waste to be built in Bukit Ketam?" she(Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh) said. - Malaysiakini, 30/1/2020
Unimpressed by the apparent reluctance of past and present governments to act against Lynas, a PKR lawmaker today demanded explanation over why the rare earth facility appears to be given “special protection”. An ostensibly frustrated Fuziah Salleh (Kuantan-PH) did not hide her dissatisfaction at how the authorities continue to allow Lynas to operate in the country despite the dangers posed by its radioactive waste. “One by one, the government has changed but still the problem persists. Why can’t any of the agencies or ministers answer? Is Lynas that powerful?” she asked during her royal address in the Dewan Rakyat today. “Lynas has never paid tax because they are 100% an Australian company. So why are we defending and protecting them? “What are you hiding? Who are you protecting? Supposedly those in power should be responsible to the rakyat. The decisions we make should be sustainable.” - Vibes, 10/3/2022
Fuziah Salleh is now still in Anwar's Cabinet as Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, and is also a SENATOR. She is also PKR secretary-general(not by elections but an appointee of President PKR) > BUT she has gone SILENT - her strong stance against LYNAS and its PDF out of concern for people's health and environment concerns seems to have gone SILENT. It is most dissapointing, when we lose a once strong advocate for the environment, peoples' health...
So, even once peoples' representative elected by people CAN change - what more 'smaller' persons politically appointed as ketua kampung, JKKK, etc
END the POLITICAL APPOINTEE system - RESTORE LOCAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS - and have elections to chose kampung/kampung baru, kampung Orang Asli/Taman/long house leadership...and even JKKK and RESIDENTS REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL.
Congratulations MB and the government of PERAK for allowing the people to choose their own "Ketua Kampung" ...
Beliau juga mengucapkan tahniah kepada mereka yang telah berjaya di pilih oleh penduduk kampung masing-masing sebagai Ketua Kampung yang baru dimana sebelum ini , perlantikan dibuat melalui kuasa politik.
Menteri Besar , Dato’ Seri Ir Haji Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin dalam ucaptamanya berharap perlantikan tersebut dapat meningkatkan usaha penyampaian maklumat dan hasrat rakyat untuk diambil tindakan oleh kerajaan negeri.- Perlantikan Ketua Kampung Negeri Perak, 8/8/2008 - (taken from Al Husseyn's Blog)Ketua Kampung - Elected by people in Perak, Chosen by government in Selangor
Yeoh: Residents Representative Council has no right to check licences, talk to business owners

KUALA LUMPUR: The Residents Representative Council (MPP) has no right to check licences or talk to business owners if it received complaints, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh.
Following a viral video showing two MPP members speaking to businesses and a subsequent police investigation into alleged extortion linked to the matter, Yeoh said all enforcement matters fall under the jurisdiction of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
"They (MPP) coordinate issues and complaints. They are not enforcement officers.
"The MPP's role is to listen to grievances and channel those complaints to DBKL.
"Therefore, there is no reason for MPP members to go to the ground to conduct checks, inspect licences or engage in 'discussions', as that falls under the jurisdiction of Kuala Lumpur's enforcement authority, DBKL," she said after the Decathlon Malaysia Kiprun launch here today.
Yeoh said MPP also had no right to meet developers, as there were proper channels for those discussions, such as forums and town halls.
She vowed to eradicate middlemen practices in Kuala Lumpur and said all dealings must be made directly with DBKL.
"While we are currently in the process of making it easier to do business in Kuala Lumpur, there are still limits and regulations.
"To apply for licenses and such, deal directly with DBKL. Do not go through anyone acting as an agent or middleman. I want to abolish the practice of using middlemen in Kuala Lumpur."
She said she would speak to members of parliament before deciding on the next steps following the controversy involving MPP.
"I will listen to the MPs on this matter because they are the elected representatives of the people.
"It is vital that the MPP truly represents the voices of residents in their respective areas."
Previously, Yeoh urged the public to report any misconduct to the integrity units of the Federal Territories Department, DBKL and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), for cases involving not only MPP, but also any officer or agency under the supervision of the Federal Territories Department.
Complaints can be lodged with the Federal Territories Department at www.jwp.gov.my/a/2060, MACC at portaladuan.sprm.gov.my and DBKL at adukl.dbkl.gov.my. - NST, 28/3/2026
PKR orders two Wangsa Maju reps to step down over extortion video
Two MPPWP members told to vacate posts immediately to allow police and internal party probes into viral protection money allegations.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories PKR Leadership Council has ordered two members of the Wangsa Maju Federal Territory Residents’ Representative Council (MPPWP) to immediately vacate their positions.
The decision against R. Vijeyndran and G. Paarthiydasan follows a viral video alleging they solicited protection money from a business premises.
Federal Territories PKR Leadership Council chairman Datuk Azman Abidin said the move allows for a full police investigation and an internal party probe.
“The party will not tolerate or shield any member or representative involved in extortion, protection money rackets, or abuse of power,” he said in a statement.
Azman stated that justice must begin from within the party itself.
The Political Bureau has also directed the Federal Territories PKR Disciplinary Committee to conduct a thorough internal investigation.
The committee is to report its findings to the bureau in the near future.
Azman said the bureau reminded all party members that their positions as residents’ representatives were a public trust.
This trust must be carried out with full integrity, he added.
“Any misconduct will be dealt with sternly and without compromise,” Azman stated.
He affirmed that PKR will continue to champion clean, transparent, and fair governance in the Federal Territory.
Meanwhile, the Political Bureau suggested that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) continue to closely monitor massage centres in Wangsa Maju.
This monitoring is to ensure there are no violations of regulations, laws or premises licensing conditions.
A video recently went viral on social media showing two individuals allegedly demanding protection money.

‘Pow’ or ‘routine monitoring’? Wangsa Maju reps deny squeezing massage parlour for cash
KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — Two community representatives at the centre of a viral video allegedly showing them soliciting a bribe from a Wangsa Maju massage parlour have denied the accusation, insisting they were only conducting a “routine monitoring” visit in their official capacities.
Vijeyndran Ravichadran, 39, deputy chairman of the Federal Territory Residents Representative Council (MPPWP) Sub Zone 2 for Wangsa Maju, and Paarthiydasan Ganesan, 33, chairman of Sub Zone 6 for Wangsa Maju, both filed police reports after an eight-minute CCTV clip of the incident was posted on the “Kelab Penyokong Perikatan Nasional” Facebook page.
The video’s caption accused the pair of extorting (“pow”) the business.
In his police report, Paarthiydasan stated that he was on an official visit to the premises on March 24, wearing his official uniform and having presented a card to prove his identity.
“The recording clearly shows I never made any statements or actions that could be interpreted as an attempt to extort money,” he wrote.
Similarly, Vijeyndran stated that his role was to gather information following multiple public complaints about unlicensed massage parlours “sprouting like mushrooms” in the area.
He said he had requested the management’s contact details from the counter staff to verify the legality of the business.
“It was a routine check, nothing more,” he clarified.
In a joint media statement, both men questioned the motive behind leaking the footage with “malicious” captions and urged the authorities to investigate the licenses of such establishments.
The viral clip reportedly shows the two men, identifying themselves as members of MPPWP, asking the business owner for money in exchange for allowing the operation to continue.
Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh directed authorities to investigate the allegations contained in the video.
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) also issued a statement disavowing the incident and rejected links to the alleged extortion, abuse of power, or unlawful conduct. - Malay Mail, 27/3/2026
Hold elections for Sarawak community chiefs, says group
Rural folk complain of being victimised by politically appointed leaders, says Sahabat Alam Malaysia.
Updated 1 year ago · Published on 07 Jun 2024 2:57PM
RURAL communities in remote Sarawak have
complained of being victimised by community chiefs in social welfare
matters if the villagers are not politically aligned to these community
chiefs, said Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM).
The environment cum
human rights body, which claimed to have received reports of
victimisation, said political oppression, especially in rural areas,
often go undetected as the grassroot folk are powerless against the
politically appointed community chiefs.
SAM coordinator for
Sarawak Jok Jau Evong said since the state government holds the monopoly
on appointing community chiefs, politics often become their top agenda.
“The
current policies give the lawmakers the authority to recommend who they
want as tuai rumah panjang (longhouse chiefs), ketua kampung (Malay
village chiefs) and kapitans, penghulus and pemancas (in mixed-race
communities).
“Without a doubt, these people will nominate those who are from their own political parties to become community chiefs.
“We
often hear from rural folk that if they have a different political
stance from the government-appointed chiefs, they often get sidelined
when it comes to community social programmes.
“This is actually a form of political victimisation and oppression,” Jok said.
To
stop this, he said the ruling state government must end its practice of
appointing community chiefs based on recommendations from lawmakers.
“Return
the power to the people to elect their community chiefs via public
elections similar to the process of parliamentary and state polls,” said
Jok, a native of interior Baram district in northern Sarawak.
He
has been an active activist for SAM for more than 30 years fighting for
environmental preservation in Sarawak and defending the land rights of
rural natives.
Yesterday, Sarawak PKR had said that politicians
from the ruling state government have been meddling in the selection of
community chiefs for decades.
The Community Chiefs and Headmen
Ordinance 2004 is full of loopholes that had allowed politicians such as
state assemblymen to dictate who they want as community chiefs, said
Sarawak PKR chairman Roland Engan.
Sarawak has some 6,000
longhouses in the rural districts as well as tens of thousands of
villages and residential estates in semi-rural and urban districts.
These
local chieftains have titles such as tuai rumah (in the longhouses),
ketua kampung in the Malay villages and pemanca and penghulu for the
urban residents.
These local chieftains preside over community
welfare matters and they have the authority to sign supporting documents
and official letters to government agencies and political offices. –
