Labour Minister Julapun Amornvivat has urged insured workers and employers to participate in today’s Social Security Board (SSB) election, which will determine the future direction of an agency managing a fund worth nearly 3 trillion baht.
The election was postponed to Sunday due to widespread flooding in Bangkok and surrounding areas.
Mr Julapun, who inspected the distribution of ballot boxes and election materials on Saturday, said the Social Security Office (SSO) is prepared for the poll.
The number of polling stations has increased from about 2,000 to 5,233 nationwide to accommodate about 12 million eligible voters.
Thirty-two polling locations have been changed, affecting about 1% of locations, Mr Julapun said, noting that the SSO has sent SMS notifications to affected voters.
In case of emergencies, such as rainstorms, he said provincial election committees can relocate polling stations.
Mr Julapun said the SSO has not set a turnout target, but it expects participation to exceed that of the previous election.
He said that polling stations have been organised at district level, rather than provincial level, to make voting more convenient.
He said voters are prohibited from bringing candidates’ leaflets or campaign materials into polling stations. They may write candidates’ numbers on their hands or on paper themselves, but may not bring in lists prepared by others, Mr Julapun said.
About 47,000 officials will be deployed at 5,233 polling stations, with nine personnel assigned to each station, including election staff and security personnel.
Votes will be counted at polling stations before the results are sent to provincial election committees and to the central election committee at the SSO. Unofficial results are expected within 24 hours.
Mr Julapun said the election is important because the board oversees a fund worth 2.8 trillion baht, financed by contributions from insured workers, employers and the government. - Bangkok Post, 11/10/2026

- Polls opened in Thailand on October 11 for insured workers and employers to elect representatives to the Social Security Board.
- The elected board members will be responsible for overseeing the Social Security Fund and shaping policies on member benefits.
- Voting is scheduled to take place from 8am to 4pm at designated polling stations across the country.
- Voters expressed hope that the new board will improve benefits, such as increasing healthcare coverage and the annual dental allowance.
Insured workers and employers in Thailand began voting on October 11, 2026, to choose representatives to the Social Security Board, giving both groups a role in overseeing the fund and shaping benefit policies. Polling opened at 8am and is scheduled to close at 4pm.
Employer and insured-worker representatives on the Social Security Board will participate in supervising the Social Security Fund, setting its operational direction and drawing up management policies to safeguard benefits and strengthen long-term social protection.
Insured workers arrived steadily at the polling station beneath the Ministry of Labour building in Bangkok from the opening of the polls, creating a lively atmosphere as voting got under way.
Social security voter urges new board to improve healthcare
Thanasak Niamsorn, 37, a voter in Nakhon Ratchasima insured under Section 33 of the Social Security Act, urged the incoming board to broaden healthcare coverage and improve benefits to better meet members’ needs.
Thanasak said favourable weather had encouraged him to vote early. He wanted a say in choosing representatives who would oversee the contributions paid into the system and pursue policies that delivered tangible improvements for insured workers.
Some insured workers felt their healthcare entitlements did not offer sufficient value for the contributions they paid, according to Thanasak. He called on the new board to act promptly on improvements to medical treatment and dental benefits.
“I would like the board to consider increasing the dental allowance, which is currently 900 baht a year, so that insured workers can access appropriate services,” Thanasak said.
Thanasak said improving benefits would also help build confidence that contributions to the social security system provided value and genuinely supported insured workers’ quality of life.
Nakhon Ratchasima sets up 147 polling stations
The Social Security Office (SSO) established 147 polling stations across all 32 districts of Nakhon Ratchasima. People insured under Sections 33 and 39 of the Social Security Act arrived steadily to elect representatives who would help oversee contributions and develop benefits.
Korat Chatchai Hall, within His Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary Sports Complex in Nakhon Ratchasima, housed 53 polling stations. Police provided security, while social security officials assisted voters, explained procedures and answered questions.
Chatchai Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima was designated to accommodate insured workers who had not registered their intention to vote in advance, subject to the prescribed procedures, Nation TV reported. Insured workers who had registered in advance were directed to Central Korat shopping centre.
Social Security Board voting open until 4pm
Eligible insured workers and employers can cast their ballots in the Social Security Board election until 4pm on October 11.
Social Security Board voters can check their eligibility and designated polling stations through the SSO’s online verification system, which supports sign-in through the ThaID digital identity application.
